LONG PLAIN FIRST NATION CORPORATE GOVERNANCE • Each urban reserve has a managing corporation with limited partnership agreements, head leases and land designations. • Chief & Council are the board of directors of all corporations. LAND • 14,110 acres in three reserves; Long Plain, Keeshkeemaquah’s Reserve (Portage), Long Plain Madison Indian Reserve (Winnipeg). First Nations Land Management • Selected in 2012 to join the land management act regime. • Land code developed. • 1st community ratification vote failed to meet the threshold of approval. • 2nd community ratification vote failed (July 2015). • 3rd vote ratified August 3, 2017 LONG PLAIN FIRST NATION Vehicles Necessary for Urban Reserves: Limited Partnership Agreements Long Plain General Partner Inc. LONG PLAIN FIRST NATION Vehicles Necessary for Urban Reserves: Municipal Services Agreements The MDSA outlines the relationship with regards to 1 the provision of services and the payment for services. Winnipeg and Portage la Prairie provide all 2 municipal services consistent with those received by other rate payers in those municipalities. Long Plain has purchased land in 5 municipal 3 jurisdictions. Long Plain notifies the City of any development on 4 the land. KEESHKEEMAQUAH’S RESERVE (PORTAGE) • Former Portage Residential School and 45 acres of land became federal surplus once the school closed its doors in 1975. • Acquired for one dollar in 1981 through acknowledgment of an outstanding treaty land entitlement. • Converted to reserve in 6 months. • In 1998 an adjacent 90 acres was acquired by the LPFN Trust and is pending ATR. • Ideally situated along the Trans Canada Highway. KEESHKEEMAQUAH’S RESERVE (PORTAGE) 1984 Former residential school (1915) becomes the first home of Yellowquill College. 1992 Land designated for leasing purposes for 50 years. 1999 Yellowquill College moves to Winnipeg.
