AMERICAN SADDLEBRED HORSE ASSOCIATION OF VIRGINIA NEWSLETTER 1617 MAIDEN LANE, SW ROANOKE, VA 24015 WWW.ASHAV.NET A Message from your President ... The 2014 ASHAV Convention was held this year at the Virginia Horse Center on the con- course, March 8th, and it proved not to be a good venue for several reasons. But despite the challenges everyone had a good time, and seemed to really like having it condensed to (1) evening. The convention was held in conjunction with the UPHA Chapter 18 Spring Riding Clinic, March 7th & 8th. The Clinic was excellent for the participants to brush up on their riding skills, work on problem areas & learn a new way to do something under the expert guidance of top trainer, Melissa Moore, with private and group lessons, from beginners to the most advanced riders. Melissa is such a positive teacher, that everyone enjoyed his or her rides. During the lunch break Saturday; equine physician Dr. Bayard Rucker presented a power point & lecture presentation for all those interested in the “ins and outs” of equine den- tistry. The Annual Membership meeting, was held on the concourse prior to the awards din- ner with the election of the officers: Carol Reedy, President, Gary Altizer, Vice-President, Jennifer Burks, Secretary, Jennifer Crozier, Treasure. Election of Zone Directors was as fol- lows: Zone 1-Larry Hartsock & Dana Ellington-Mullins, Zone 2-Heather Dudley & Lee Ad- ams-Hudson, Zone 3-Robin Williams & Katie Constable, Zone 4-Joy Bowman & Natalie Hamer and Zone 5 (West VA) Casey Surface & Andre Fourie. Old & New business was dis- cussed and members adjourned for the Banquet. With much anticipation the presentation of 2013 ASHAV High Point winners, High Point Horse of the Year (A Starless Nite), Junior Judging winners, Adult Sportsmanship recipient Casey Surface & Youth Sportsmanship re- cipient Caroline Stephenson, Trainer of the Year was Sherri Surface. Junior & Senior Judging, Academy High Point Awards, as well as Virginia Winter Tourna- ment High Point winners. I want to Thank all of who served on committees and all who volunteered to help in whatever capacity was needed this past year! We will continue to need your ideas, experience, exper- tise and your willingness to serve on committees as we go through this year. We need new and fun ideas for the 2014 Horse show, especially since this is our 30th Anniversary. The Horse Show will be, Sept. 25-28th & our Judge will be Melissa Moore. The popular Dog Show Friday night after the last class during the exhibitors party and the highly competitive Stick Horse parade Saturday evening will again be offered this year as well as Ride for the Cure/Iron Will. We are again planning another Great show and hope you will join us! As the planning process for the 2014 show unfolds and an officer or zone representative calls for your support please support their efforts! Remember this is Our show and we want it to be the very best it can possibly be!
