Internationally acclaimed, Grammy and Juno-award-winning Canadian baritone Gerald Finley began singing as a chorister in Ottawa before completing his musical studies in the UK at the Royal College of Music, King’s College, Cambridge and the National Opera Studio. After his initial appearances at Glyndebourne in the Mozart baritone repertoire, he now PROGRAM appears in a variety of leading roles at the world’s opera houses. His Don Giovanni has been seen in Salzburg, Munich, Vienna, Prague, Rome, New York, Paris, Tel Aviv and Winterreise Franz Schubert London. He has created the lead roles in a number of major premières, including the role of Howard K. Stern in Anna Nicole at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, J. Robert I. Gute Nacht (1797-1828) Oppenheimer in Doctor Atomic at the Metropolitan Opera, Harry Heegan in The Silver II. Die Wetterfahne Tassie at English National Opera, the title role in Fantastic Mr. Fox and Jaufre Rudel in L’amour de loin. His expanding dramatic repertoire include recent outstanding successes III. Gefrorne Tränen as Hans Sachs in Meistersinger at Glyndebourne and Iago in Otello with the LSO. In 2012, IV. Erstarrung he was honored by Opera Canada with a Ruby Award. V. Der Lindenbaum Finley performs with all the major orchestras of the world, in oratorio and symphonic VI. Wasserflut repertoire, notably the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony, London Symphony, the Concertgebouw and the Berlin Philharmonic. His album Arias in English with the VII. Auf dem Flusse London Philharmonic won the 2011 Juno Award. VIII. Rückblick Through Hyperion Records, his releases include a Gramophone Magazine Award-winning IX. Irrlicht album of Schumann’s Dichterliebe and two further Gramophone Awards for Songs by X. Rast Samuel Barber and Britten’s Songs and Proverbs, all with Julius Drake. He was nominated XI.
