HE International Conference of Agricultural Economists was Tinaugurated during the summer of l9z9, when fifty economists from eleven countries met for two weeks at Darrington Hall, Devon, England, on the invitation of Mr. L. K. Elmhirst. The Second Conference was held in i930 at Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y., U.S.A., and was attended by over 300 members and visitors, twenty countries being represented. At this meeting the formal Constitu­ tion was drawn up and approved. The Third Conference held at Bad Eilsen, Schaumburg-Lippe, Germany, in 1934, was attended by l?Q members, 19 countries being represented. The Fourth Con­ ference was held at St. Andrews when z l 9 members and visitors attended, of whom 127 were from 21 countries outside of the United Kingdom. 510 International Conference of Agricultural E.conomists The Conference has now a total membership of 343, with Groups or Correspondents in 30 countries. Its representative character has been steadily growing since the first informal gathering in i929, until it now embraces the majority of countries where the study of agricultural economics is pursued. The object of the Conference is that of fostering development of the services of agricultural economics and of furthering the applica­ tion of the results of economic investigation of agricultural processes and agricultural organization in the improvement of economic and social conditions relating to agricultural and rural life.
