His stories pro- vided an enticing picture of celebrity and criminal culture during the 1920s and ‘30s. Guys and Dolls may be the “PERFECT musical comedy”; how- ever, with its sinners, gambling, dated sexist dialogue, lying and manipu- lations, can it be the perfect musical for children to learn in 2019? Guys and Dolls is really a story about love, passion and the transformational power of love. The gamblers LOVE gambling and it fills them with joy. The mis- sion folks LOVE God and are so moved by their faith that they endlessly march through Times Square trying to save sinners. Adelaide LOVES Nathan so much she is willing to endure a 14-year engagement and never-ending cold to stay with him. Sky LOVES Sarah enough to sacrifice gambling for her. The young actors in this production LOVE to perform onstage and have such passion for performing together! Their passion for theater translates into the bound- less energy that is essential for bringing the magic and energy of Guys and Dolls to the stage. Is this the perfect musical for children in 2019? Absolutely! A “Hot Shooter” thank you to our creative team! For the extraordinary singing and vocal arrangements you will hear today, we have our Music Director, the exquisite Harriet Fraser to thank. Harriet, working with you is the ultimate luxury! Hayden Roush, our steadfast and whole-hearted assistant director, has graced us with his expertise and organizational skills; these skills have been essential in preparing 38 children in three separate casts for the show, with only six weeks of rehearsals! We couldn’t have done this without you, Hayden! Emma Green, while home from NYU, brought her gleaming sunshine and choreography to shine upon us! Tricia Taper, our special guest teacher, you always bring the sparkle, you are the sprinkles and cherry on top! Rachel Howe-Mixon, thank you for helping out on music and gorgeous vocals. It is always a joy to have you here. Riley Stoler and Ella Zarrow, our creative and generous Dance Cap- tains. You both have given so much of yourselves, on and off-stage! We are all so grateful! Dolly Phillips and Susan Jackman, our patient, compassionate and industrious producers, we are all so grateful for all that you have done to have us all prepared! — Luck be a Lady tonight!! Diane Grant Feltham SPECIAL THANKS 38 kids 3 casts 9 shows It takes a village to make these shows as amazing as they are. Therefore, we must give a large heartfelt thanks to a team, who may not be in the theatre at every rehearsal, but is making sure all the pieces and magic that need to come together do so. Thank you to Tania Collas, Shane LaLonde and Sew Chateau, Rosie Willis, Emma Klein, Ruth Laurent Kocher, Uma and David Sartory, Jon Ganz, Cathy Stallings, Ally White, Michelle Villemaire, Katie O’Neill, Debbie Sachs, Charmain Glennon, Nona Hale, Mitch Feinstein, Joanne Reich, Diane Grant and the Theatre Palisades Board and to all of the hardworking parent volunteers working before, during and after the shows. PRODUCTION STAFF BIOS Lara Ganz (Director & Choreographer) received her BA in Psychology from UCLA, graduated from the American Musical and Dramatic Acad- emy (AMDA) in NYC, and is currently studying to be a drama therapist for children. However, learning to parent her two enchanting children, Callum and Mireille, has been by far her greatest education. She feels extremely grateful for the uplifting experience of working with the TPY members over the past 6 years. Lara would like to acknowledge her extraordinarily generous husband for his willingness to give so much of himself in all ways, making all her dreams come true, on the stage and in “real life.” Harriet Fraser (Music Director) so enjoyed seeing her daughter be- come part of the TPY family in the summer of 2017 with Beauty and the Beast, she helped to produce The Lion King. Last summer, she music directed Peter Pan. She thoroughly enjoyed that and is back as music director, this time with both her daughters, Anna and Elodie! Harriet is originally from the U.K., where she practiced as a family doctor and was a part-time classical singer. When her family moved stateside 10 years ago, Harriet pursued her singing dream further, and now sings regularly with the L.A. Master Chorale, oratorio solos around Southern California and can be heard on movie soundtracks too. www.harrietfraser.com Hayden Roush (Assistant Director) is excited to be a part of his first TPY musical! After a decade of living out his childhood dream of making movies, he felt called to serve the Palisades, a neighborhood he discov- ered while a beach camp director, as a pastor. Upon completing his MA from Fuller Seminary, he has been enjoying his new role as Youth and Family Pastor at Pali Pres Church. He is very thankful to Lara and the entire cast for letting him join in their acting family. Susan Jackman (Producer). This is Susan’s second go around as pro- ducer with Theatre Palisades Youth. In her spare time, she is a research nurse at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She would like to thank her in- credible team at work for their support, which allows her to take on the producing role. Her best role to date is being Jillian Leary’s mom. Break a leg, cast. We are so proud of all of you! Dolly Phillips (Producer). This is Dolly’s first time as producer with The- atre Palisades Youth and the last time she worked on Guys and Dolls in the ‘80s, she was a Hot Box Girl! Dolly’s daughter is Shanti, who’s been involved in TPY for 2 years. Dolly is a certified Thanatologist & Psychotherapist and she has a wicked sense of humor! CAST BIOS Pearl Abrahams (Big Jule / Ensemble) is enjoying her fifth TPY show. She has been in over 15 shows in various theater groups. Pearl loves to sing, act, paint, play volleyball and cuddle her puppy.
