Established in 2012, the RHF works in close collaboration with external partners to support initiatives that strengthen Canada’s identity, build capacity, and promote the advancement of a smart and caring nation. The Rideau Hall Foundation’s four pillars of activity – learning initiatives that strive for excellence and promote equality of educational opportunity; investing in Canadian leaders with transformative potential; widening the circle of giving and volunteering; strengthening Canada’s culture of innovation – speak to the role of the Governor General of Canada and the vision of the RHF’s Inaugural Chair, the Right Honourable David Johnston, 28th Governor General of Canada. In sum, the RHF serves as a catalyst, connector, and amplifier for initiatives that foster Canadian values and identity by utilizing the unique leadership role that successive Governors General can play in helping marshal the talent, energy, and resources of the country. Emerging from the incubation phase in 2016, the Foundation moved into a consolidation and growth period in which, under the leadership of the Board of Directors and President and CEO, Scott Haldane, the Foundation grew its profile and impact. The RHF now works in close collaboration with external (public, private, and not-for-profit) partners to support initiatives that strengthen Canadian identity, build capacity, and promote the advancement of a smart and caring nation. The RHF is once again in an exciting period of transition. With the installation of Canada’s 29th Governor General, Her Excellency, the Right Honourable Julie Payette, and as the RHF moves into it’s next phase of growth, the next President and CEO will play a critical role in ensuring the impact, relevance and sustainability of the Foundation.
