14th – 20th July 2009 JERSEY PEPSI ICC Development Programme – Europe The PEPSI ICC European Development Program started in 1997 and in Europe now involves 12 Associate and 18 Affiliate member countries as well as 12 Prospective member countries. The program is run by seven staff at the ICC Europe headquarters at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London and has four strategic goals. ICC’s mission statement is complemented by a Vision of Success and values for the sport. The opportunity to represent your country is a great honour at any time, however, being provided with the opportunity to also qualify for a World Cup will be a memory you will cherish for the rest of your lives. This year’s event will see the Under 19 national squads from each of six Europe’s Associate Members Denmark, Ireland, Netherlands, Scotland, Jersey and Guernsey play against each other in a series of 50-over matches. Scotland will be looking to once again defend their title from top rivals Ireland, whilst Guernsey and Jersey will be participating for the first time at this age-group. The ICC is dedicated to providing a pathway for all Member countries to compete at the highest level of our sport and therefore the top two teams at the end of this event will progress through to the Global ICC U/19 CWC Qualifier later this year. On behalf of the Pepsi ICC Development Programme, I wish you and your team the best of luck in achieving this aim. There are many people who have contributed much to the organisation of this event, not least the Tournament Organiser Doug Ferguson to whom I and the ICC are truly grateful. This is highlighted in his selection for the “New Look” Danish A team and National Team Structures. Ali Imtiaz Ahmed, KBCC, LHB, RAM – Ali is a very exciting prospect for Danish Cricket, a talented left hand batsman that can play at the top or middle of the order. A consistent medium pace bowler as well, Ali has also been known to don the pads and keep when required. Suleman Arshad, KBCC, LAS, RHB – Another exciting prospect from Copenhagen based club side KB, Suleman is an exciting spin bowler to watch out for now and in the future. A solid middle order batsman, “Sule” also has the ability to accelerate when required, and is also an outstanding fielder. Mohsin Ali, Hvidovre CC, RAS, RHB – The newest member to the squad, Mohsin has risen from Danish domestic cricket and shown him self to be a slow bowler with real potential, as well as an outstanding fielder. A solid lower order batsman, his will be Mohsin’s first ICC Europe Tournament, but definitely not his last. Lars Flemming Bolt, Husum CC, RHB, RAS – Lars has been a regular in the Danish youth set-up since U13 age levels. A stylish batsman that can bat both at the top of the order or the middle, Lar’s will certainly be a player to watch this coming summer. An accomplished occasional bowler and agile fielder, he has also been selected for the Danish A team squad. Melad Nevabi, Herning CC, RHB, WK – Melad is another young cricketer that has risen through the ranks of Danish Youth Cricket. An outstanding wicketkeeper, both up to the stumps and back, and a top or middle order batsman with a solid technique, he is another player we hope will develop into a fully fledged National Team player through his newly aquired A team status. Shuaib Hasan Rashid, Svanholm CC, RHB, RAS – Another of our newly promoted A Team players, Hasan is a very solid middle order batsman with a full array of strokes around the wicket. An occasional bowler, he is a very agile and fast fielder around the park. Ihyas Sawmy, Herning CC, RAS, LHB – The first of the current Danish Academy players to make it to the squad, Ihyas has also just been selected for the new look A Team here in Denmark. Ihyas is an very exciting slow bowling prospect, and certainly one to watch out for, he is also an accomplished fielder and can more than hold his own with the bat. Hamid Shah, Svanholm CC, RHB, RAS – Another player from the Danish Academy, Hamid has risen this winter to full National Team selection, one of the youngest players to do so in Danish Cricket history. A very solid top order batsman, with a fine variety of strokes, he is also an integral part of the bowling attack, and an outstanding fielder. Niclas Damgaard Hald, Herning CC, RHB, RAM – Niclas is a solid batsman with a large range of shots, who has improved a lot over the last few years. Hard work and good performances has made him a 1st team player for his club Herning CC. Niclas will if given a chance do his outmost to make a claim for a match-winning role in the tournament. Sohaib Zahid, ABCC, RAFM, RHB – Another member of the Danish Academy set up, Sohaib has again made huge strides this winter and is developing into a consistent “New Ball” bowler, and a more than useful bowler. Also a very agile fielder, he is also an excellent motivator both on and off the field. Sonny Nielsen, Herning CC, RHB, RAM – Sonny has played in various ICC Europe Tournaments at different age levels over the last few years and developed into a handy cricketer with both bat and bowl. A real ‘team player’ who tries to fit whatever role he is given in the team. Sonny has really made a name for himself in the field as being one of the faster men with a great pair of hands in Danish cricket. Minik Pedersen, Kolding CC, RHB, RAM, WK – Minik is another player with stacks of ICC Europe Tournament experience, and a good example of the Danish Development system. A talented allrounder, he can bat anywhere in the order, as he has a fine array of streokes. A useful bowler, he can also don the pads and gloves for the team. Zameer khan, Svanholm CC, RHB, RAM – Zameer is another talented top order batman from Brøndby based Svanholm Cricket Club. He is also a more than useful medium pace bowler, as well as a very agile fielder in all positions.
