David Owen 3 COACHES COMMENTS Good Afternoon everyone and welcome to Murdoch Park for today’s clash against Mt Albert Ponsonby. A warm welcome to Mt Albert Ponsonby’s players, Coaching Staff and Supporters as well as the match officials. Since my last write up we have had one game which was at home to Western Springs a fortnight ago. This game was a going to be no different to the game against Eastern Suburbs. Western Springs were sitting up the top end of the table and were in a tussle with Suburbs for the number one spot on the ladder. To the game and it started out as a classic arm wrestle battle. With possession and territory being relatively even the game could have possibly gone either way. Western Springs however with some good play managed to score to go one up and take the lead towards the latter stages of the game. It was at this time I made some changes and one of those was bringing Ebuka on up front. With his strong potential and great pace he was able to get a great ball and run through to score and level the game. The lads thought hard right to the final whistle and we took a 1-1 draw which was a pleasing result. To today’s game, we will be will wanting to do all we can to pick up points on offer and get another win at home. We know that we have the potential to gain results from teams who sit at the upper end of the table. We also want to start the second half of the season on a good note. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Fadeel Khan and his partner on the birth of their child last week. I hope everything is going well. I would like to again thank you the supporters who come down week in week out to support the boys. Enjoy the game and see you all afterwards in the bar. Paul Margison (Margee) 4 RESERVE TEAM Greetings everyone and welcome to Mt Albert Ponsonby and their supporters to Murdoch Park. Today we start the second round of the season home to Mt Albert Ponsonby. We hope to make it a good start. Against Western Springs we were in for a good tussle. We had a squad that was capable to get a result required. Western Springs however showed they were going to be strong and if we wanted steal a result we would have to be on the ball and take our chances given. Unfortunately Western Springs played strong and effectively and as a result of this they took the result 3-0 Last week against Lynn-Avon in the plate we were determined to go out and beat a division 2 side. Early on in the game it looked to be relatively even however Lynn Avon took some impressive control of the game and scored 4 goals to win the game 4-0 seeing our cup run end. To today’s game and we take on Mt Albert Ponsonby. This team gave us a good tussle in the first half of the season and we are sure today will be no different. It will be great to see the lads pick up the points on offer today and pick up a win to start the second half of the season. The Football Festival was run like a mini tournament between the clubs with a total of 10 teams with Papatoetoe AFC having 4 teams involved. Luckily it was a fine morning and 70+ Children along with their parents, grandparents, aunty and uncles turned up at Murdoch Park. The Children played 5 games in total and the top 4 teams played off in a 6th game. Lots of fun was had by all and there was a bunch of tired but happy kids at the end of the morning. Our Papatoetoe AFC teams did well competing against the other clubs. Papatoetoe United Brazil came away with the winners trophy and a very large block of chocolate each, Papatoetoe AFC Storm did very well and finished 2nd after drawing 0-0 in the final but losing on corners conceded and they also receive a block of chocolate each, every child that participated received a certificate and there was a lolly scramble for everyone at the end. The 8th Grade Hurricanes would like to thank Maria, Leon and Wendy for running the football festival, and also to Ave, Shontelle and Ally for doing an excellent job at refereeing the games. Also a big thanks to the parents that helped coach our teams, David, Ross, John, Tariq and Anthony. Final result were: Papatoetoe United Brazil, Papatoetoe AFC Storm, Otahuhu/Manukau Dragons, Papatoetoe United Germany, Papatoetoe United Spain, Papatoetoe AFC Cyclones, Papatoetoe AFC Thunder, Papatoetoe AFC Lightning, Papatoetoe United England, Papatoetoe United Argentina.
