It was very pleasing to see Northbridge finish with 2 teams playing in semi-finals, with both the B and C Grade sides making it through to the business end of the season only to fall short at the semi-final hurdle. Both teams should be congratulated on great seasons and I certainly look forward to seeing them go better in the next season. This season was not without it’s troubles. We did lose a considerable ammount of members who didn’t believe in the core values of the Northbridge club, whilst it being disappointing to lose members who had played with the club for many years, this also created opportunities for others to stand up in their stead and we certainly had a good number there with the likes of Rav Sarkar, Eamonn Flanagan, Alex Davey, Rodney Mottley, Michael Smith all putting their hands up to take on the challenge of playing in our A Grade side. We also saw the introduction of new blood into the club, with the guys coming over from Kirribilli Crusaders to join us for half of the season, only to see them remain as fully fledged Northbridge members. Some may be surprised at this, but the success of the Northbridge club is down to the way that the members treat each other and build life long friendships and we have certainly done that with our new members who will help us move forward and create an even better club. We also saw a level of inter-club bonding this year that I have never seen in my time at the club. Traditionally you see members stick with the guys in their teams and not too much mingling between teams. This season certainly saw that change dramatically, whether it be the training sessions at Sydney Boys High to the post- match gatherings at Billy Barry’s Hotel, it makes me immensely proud to see the club come together and take genuine interest in how each other goes on a Saturday, and celebrate each other’s success and failures regardless of which team they played for. This is the core values of Northbridge, where we endeavour to create an environment where we cater for all cricketers regardless of ability, from the social cricketers to the serious cricketers. Most clubs measure their success in the number of games they win, but I would measure the success of the Northbridge club by the number of smiles on peoples faces, and this season sure brought about many of them. This season also saw the club fielding a number of players in the NSCA representative team playing in the Martin Shield competition. Northbridge submitted a number of players, with many of the A Grade guys, as well as some B Grade guys getting a run. This was also the first time in a while that the NSCA team managed to win a match, no doubt due to the strong contributions of the Northbridge members. At this point I would like to thank all our captains and vice captains for their leadership throughout the season. We had some new captains on board this year, some who had never tossed the coin before, and seeing their growth throughout
