Port River Sailing Club Inc. Year Book for 2017-2018 A member of Australian Sailing Ltd Actual Location: 45 George Robertson Drive, Largs North, 5016 PO Box 192, Port Adelaide, SA, 5015 Phone 84491818 Email: [email protected] Website www.portriver.yachting.org.au Welcome to Port River Sailing Club for 2107-18 season 1. Thanks to the volunteers. Last season has seen a huge effort by members of the club. Early in the year saw the installation of our shade structures. This was a major task for a group of club members. Many trades’ people and many no trades’ people were engaged. I believe many members were pleased to see what a group of none professions could achieve. Well done team. Other areas to run this sailing club are race management off and on the water, canteen and house maintenance. These are just normal club duties done by normal club members who arrive every Saturday to do their duties. The club would not operate without these dedicated members. Many thanks to those members who have helped during the year. 2. Club Sailing. Sailing boat numbers held their own during the year with about the same as previous years. The major classes of Sabres and Fireballs dominated procedures. Our club champions are well deserving of their positions. It would be nice if we could build on our current fleets. 3. Social events. Social events like Opening Day, Christmas Party, Prize night and many other impromptu after sailing gatherings will again make the sailing club a true social place as well. It is very nice to see so many older none sailing members still coming to the club for their social fix. 4. Not the Nationals Not the Nationals will be held again after Christmas on the 27th 28th and 29th of December. Let’s hope the weather is better this year. 5. Metro Schools Team Sailing. We will not have a state title at the club this year. School Team Sailing will only be running their trials at Port River. We should make some financial gains from these events. Volunteers will still be required during these Sundays. Page 1 6. The future development of the club. The introduction of two races per Saturday has been agreed and will be introduced this season. Short course racing was enjoyed last season and will continue. Having two races each Saturday will allow for more drops for Club Championship points and Handicap points. A second advantage of two races per Saturday is that it will allow more people from the team sailing group to enjoy one short race of 45minutes. Welcome from your Management team for another year. It outlines our commitment to a person’s right to be treated with respect and dignity, and to be safe and protected from abuse. Our policy informs everyone involved in our club of his or her legal and ethical rights and responsibilities and the standards of behaviour that are required. It also covers the care and protection of children participating in our club’s activities. Child Protection The PRSC is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people accessing our service. We support the rights of the child and will act without hesitation to ensure a child safe environment is maintained at all times. We also support the rights and wellbeing of our staff and volunteers and encourage their active participation in building and maintaining a secure environment for all participants. PRSC acknowledges that our staff, members and volunteers provide a valuable contribution to the positive experiences of children involved in our sport. PRSC aims to continue this and to Page 5 take measures to protect the safety and welfare of children participating in our sport Bridge Workings. Assistance is always welcome on the Bridge. No experience is required. Safety Boats. Port River Sailing Club has three Safety Boats. PR6 is crewed by Sue Kitto and Mark Moore and is used as the Start Boat and for laying the course markers. PR8 (a Rubber Duck) is the lead boat for River Traffic and keeps a close watch on all sailors. PR4 is used on busy days, our back up boat. The Bridge and Safety Boat Personnel all keep a close watch on the sailors and the river traffic. Visitors are always welcome to lend a hand. 2017-2018 PROGRAM We have decided not to roster a class to help out with the launching, retrieval and washing of the safety boats. Instead, we would encourage all members to help with what they can, when they can with the safety boats, and people may be requested to assist with race organisation. Social Events will be held throughout the season and will be publicised on the Club notice board and PRSC website. Presentations will be held after sailing and the safety boats are in the shed. Club BBQ facilities will be available each week after Sailing for members use.
