We’re hosting newly promoted side Corwen this afternoon, in what I’m sure we all hope will be the start of a positive season following the disappointment of last year. Once again, it’s a new look squad with only captain Danny Hughes and goalkeeper Shaun Pearson who remain from the end of last season’s squad, along with Matty Jones coming in to lead the lads. Matty has been confident throughout pre-season and has looked to have set up a good group of lads who will be willing to work hard for the club and we’ll hopefully have a lot more to shout about this season. We’ve got a mix of experience with the likes of Danny, Shaun and Lee Thomas in the squad, along with a good crop of local young lads who will give their all for the club. With our first three league games being at Maesdu Park, we have a really good opportunity to gather some momentum this month and then hopefully build on that in the coming months, and let’s hope we can start off with a win this afternoon. Enjoy the game!” Geraint Roberts , Head of Media IT’S ALL ABOUT WINNING! The club was formed for the purpose of providing activity for cricketers during their close season. SA full international Wales v Ireland was played on the “council field” in 1988. Llandudno were founder members of the Welsh National League (North) in 1921 and were champions in 1923 and League Cup winners in 1930. The club won the N.W.C.F.A in 1926 and the North Wales Amateur Cup in 1929. Controversy struck the club in 1931 when the F.A.W instructed them to play East Wales, which Llandudno refused and were suspended. Llandudno were also founder members of the Welsh League (North) in 1935 and remained in the league until war broke out in 1939 and then re-joined in 1945 up until 1974. Llandudno were league champions in 1936 and repeated the feat the following season, in addition the club regained the North Wales Amateur Cup in 1948 and 1962, the Alves Cup in 1951 and the Cookson Cup in 1965. The club moved to its current home at Maesdu Park in 1991 after the “council field” was used for the construction of the ASDA store in the late 1970’s, now the new Parc MBi Maesdu. The current ground was officially opened in 1991 and floodlights were added in 1994. The following season saw the erection of a clubhouse and two small stands which provides covered seating for 130 spectators. The club has then went under major transitions, with the addition of a new press box, built by local lad Cyril “Ciz” Williams who tragically died while construction was ongoing, and it is surely a testament that such a great number of friends were determined to finish his work and the building stands as a fitting memorial to this wonderful man. In the 2004/05 season the current dressing rooms were built, and the grandstands with disabled access. In the 2014/15 season major developments continued with the addition of a brand new entrance foyer, fitted with an educational suite, and a state of the art 3G pitch alongside the introduction of a thriving community arm, and for the first time in the clubs history Llandudno Football Club earned promotion into the Welsh Premier League. The club then reached an agreement with sportswear giants Adidas to be their official kitwear supplier until at least 2017, along with major kit sponsors from W.R. Davies Renault and the UPVC Outlet. The good news didn’t stop there as more redevelopments took place around the ground with the introduc- tion of a brand new TV gantry and 75 seater stand. At the end of the 2015/16 season, and in Llandudno’s debut year in the top tier of Welsh football, we gained automatic promotion to the Europa League after a third placed finish. Llandudno had earned themselves a tie against two time European Cup Winners IFK Goteborg in the first qualifying round, on- ly to be outmuscled 7-1 on aggregate, with Danny Hughes the name in history scoring for his hometown club. An experience the club and the town were extremely proud of, and one that will never be forgotten as we look to replicate it year upon year. All this wouldn’t be possible without the support and the dedication from our tirelessly working volun- teers, and so here you find us as one club, one community. It has been a very busy off season and pre season and the squad, management team and everyone behind the scenes is excited to now get going. The playing and management teams have both been totally revamp and rebuilt over the summer, with myself being appointed in May after the club suffered relegation from the WPL. My main role has been to recruit a management team, a playing team and to work on bringing a feel good factor back to the club. The most effective way for us to do that is to win games of football in an entertaining and exciting way that pleases and engages you, the fans. From last years squad I was delighted to retain the services of long serving captain Danny Hughes as well as ex- perienced goalkeeper Shaun Pearson, retaining these two players was a huge early boost. Joining these two will be some familiar faces to the Llandudno faithful including, Lee Thomas, Dean Seeger, Ant Mar- shall, Bry Roberts and Robbie Parry. These players are joined by a number of players that I have worked with before and who you will come to know and enjoy watching as the season progresses. I’d also like to introduce first team oath Stu Howson who joins the back room team from the academy, Dave Guinn who continues as goalkeeper coach, Rob Jones who comes in as first team coach and match day physio and Sian Bethel who will be our head of medicine and treatment. I would also like to mention and thank a number of the clubs volunteers that have been extremely helpful and supportive since my appointment. Richard, the chairman has been extremely supportive on a number of issues and helping to ensure the football side can run as smoothly as possible. Victor has been a rock as club secretary and the support received from others such as Grant, Geraint, Neil, Rob, Sam, Gerald and everyone else has been fantastic for us as a group. Our competitive games started last week with a late defeat to Guilsfield in the cup. I felt we played very well in most parts of the game and just fell short in what was a very tight and well contested game. This game followed on from a tough but very productive pre season program that has prepared us well for this coming season. I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome our visitors today, Corwen. Corwen were promoted last year from the Welsh National League and will come into this campaign with momentum having kept most of their promoted side. We know that this is going to be a tough game against resilient opposi- tion so we must ensure we are at our very best to come away with maximum points. I would like to thank you in advance for your tremendous support, it is a privilege and an honour for me to managing this football club and I aim to create a club environment that we can all be proud of, and the key to that is that we are all together, pulling in the same direction and loving what we do.” Matthew Jones, 1st Team Manager LLANDUDNO FC MATCH REPORT OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGRAMME GUILSFIELD vs LLANDUDNO Nathaniel MG Cup Second Round Saturday, 10th of August, 2019 Clos Mytton, Guilsfield RESULT: GUILSFIELD 1 - 0 LLANDUDNO Llandudno out of the Nathaniel MG Cup following Guislfield late winner.
