MAN DETAINE BY POLICE A supporter of the Irish Freedom Movement was arrested in the University Union two weeks ago, accused of belonging to an illegal terrorist organisa- tion. The 23 year-old man was selling IFM literature outside the Porters' Office when he was approached by a plain-clothes policeman who was on duty on the University campus. The man attempted to retreat further into the Union but the police const- able. with assistance from another officer, arrested him and escorted him to Millgarth police station. NO CHARGE He was threatened with charges under the Prevention of Terrorism Act hut, after being detained and questioned for an hour, was released with no charges having been made. He described the behaviour of the police as "intimidating and unnecessarily. antagonistic.- A formal complaint was lodged by Cultural Affairs Secret- ary, Guy Hollands, on behalf of the Union against the entry of the policemen into the building without permission. Following a number of incidents last year, a verbal agree- ment exists between the. Union and the police that no police- man will enter the Union without consulting a member of L.U.U. Exec.
