Each cone can have no more than two rings on it. At the end of the game count up the rings to see which team has won? Students can defend their rings by tossing balls at other students anywhere in the gymnasium (not just in their own half). When a student is hit with a ball they go to a rotating jail. The jail holds only two students per team. When the third student comes to the jail the first student is back in the game. PAGE 2 FAVORITE GAMES Catch Up Tag (Tom and Jerry) (From PE Universe – www.peuniverse.com. Video of game can be viewed.) Space Needed: Gym or Catch Up Tag is a continuous relay game. Equipment needed outside running area includes multiple pairs of identically colored cones and deck rings/batons. The cones designate where teams stand during the game and the deck rings/batons are what each team uses to Equipment Needed: hand off to their teammates during the game. One set for each ▪Identically colored cones side of the gym. Divide your class into groups of 3 to 4. Put each ▪Deck Rings or Batons group behind a cone that has a deck ring. The object of the game is for one person in each group to run clockwise and try to catch the team with the same color deck ring as theirs. Each person can only go around once so it’s a sprint. If they can’t catch the same color in one try they must hand off the deck ring to the next person in line and the game continues. If a group is able to “catch up” or tag the same color they both stop, hold the deck ring up, and walk back to their respective starting cone. Once they get back to their group they give the deck ring to the next person in line. When the teacher sees two deck rings up in the air that are the same color they re-start those two teams. This game can continue as long as the kids are enjoying the challenge. We’ve play this for up to 30 minutes. Illinois Cone Ball (From PE Universe – www.peuniverse.com. Video of game can be viewed.) Space Needed: Gym In this game there are 2 teams and everyone has a flag belt or scarf tucked into their pants/shorts. 1 team is on offense and the Equipment Needed: other on defense. We play for 2 minutes and then switch. The team that starts on offense has 3 people start behind the ▪Flat belt with flags for all volleyball service line on end of the gym. These 3 people start the players game. Each player has a gator skin ball. They are throwing the ▪Gator Skin Ball ball to teammates who are trying to catch the ball and then ▪Gym Mats carry the ball or throw the ball to a teammate who attempts to throw it against the mat on the opposite end of the court. Any time the ball hits the ground it is dead and the ball goes back to one of the players behind the volleyball service line. The defense can stop the offense by pulling a player’s flag when they have possession of the ball. If the offensive player’s flag is pulled when they have the ball they just give the ball back to a teammate that is behind the volleyball service line. The defense may have a goalie protect the goal. We play for 2 minutes then teams switch places. Page 2 of 9 www.DrJohnsTraining.com Version 8.2014 PAGE 3 FAVORITE GAMES Great Wall of China All students line up across the baseline.
