Five Cal seniors – Daniel Carr, Sean Grieshop, named the swimmer of the meet for the second Pac-12 Swimming Coaches of the Year 13 Ryan Hoffer, Trenton Julian and Bryce Mefford – consecutive year after sweeping his three individual Olympians 62 amassed 178 combined individual points at the 2019 events (50 free, 100 free, 100 fly) and contributing to Olympic Medals 47 meet as sophomores, helping power Cal to its sixth-ever four relay wins. NCAA CHAMPIONS UNDER DURDEN GOLDEN BEAR NOTES 2019 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS JULIAN SCORCHES 200 FLY AT PAC-12s 50 Freestyle Ryan Hoffer 18.63 Trenton Julian saved his best for last in the final individual event of the 2021 Pac-12 Championships on March 3, finishing 200 Freestyle Andrew Seliskar 1:30.14 the 200 fly in 1:38.53 to set a new Pac-12 record and a new Cal school record (previously held by Zheng Wen Quah since 200 Breaststroke Andrew Seliskar 1:48.70 200 Individual Medley Andrew Seliskar 1:38.14 2017, 1:38.83). It was the nation’s fastest time this year and ranks Julian as the third-fastest butterflier in NCAA history, 200 Freestyle Relay Pawel Sendyk, Ryan Hoffer trailing just Texas’ Jack Conger and Joseph Schooling. Michael Jensen, Andrew Seliskar 1:14.46 WHITLEY SEEDED ATOP 200 BREAST 2017 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS Junior breaststroker Reece Whitley is aiming for his first individual NCAA title this week, and has the chance to do so in the 100 Backstroke Ryan Murphy 43.99 100 and 200 breast events. Whitley is the top seed in the 200 breast event after swimming 1:48.53 back in November in 200 Backstroke Ryan Murphy 1:36.75 Cal’s first competition of the 2020-21 season. The time was not only a Pac-12 record & Cal school record, but the third- 2016 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS fastest swim in history behind Texas’ Will Licon, who swam 1:47.91 and 1:48.12 at NCAA meets in 2017 & 2016. 100 Backstroke Ryan Murphy 43.49 200 Backstroke Ryan Murphy 1:35.73 HOFFER AIMING FOR 50 FREE REPEAT 400 Individual Medley Josh Prenot 3:35.82 Ryan Hoffer is the lone member of Cal’s NCAA squad that has won an individual event at the national meet. The senior sprinter won the 50 free (18.63) in 2019 as well as swimming an 18.43 split in the Bears’ 200 free relay national title. 2015 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS Hoffer set Cal’s school record in the 50 free (18.58) during the morning prelims at the 2019 NCAAs. 100 Backstroke Ryan Murphy 44.17 200 Backstroke Ryan Murphy 1:36.77 200 Medley Relay Ryan Murphy, Chuck Katis IMPACT ADDITION Justin Lynch, Tyler Messerschmidt 1:22.40 Senior Zach Yeadon, a transfer from Notre Dame, is a three-time NCAA qualifier (2018-20) and scored at both the 2018 and 2019 championship meets while with the Fighting Irish. After equaling Notre Dame’s best-ever finish at the 2018 2014 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS NCAA Championships (4th, 1650 free; 14:35.98), Yeadon took 14th in the 500 free (4:14.84) and 13th in the 1650 free 100 Backstroke Ryan Murphy 44.63 (14:42.90) in 2019.
