Lawfest a Place to Be Involved, to Think, Talk and Connect

LawFest A place to be involved, to think, talk and connect. 18 and 19 July 2014 • The Parabola Arts Centre, Cheltenham Why #LawFest? Well, our ambition is not to create a new shiny thing, not to make noise and not to pretend answers are easy. If lawyers were to take to heart all that has been said about the changing market landscape it is a journey to hell in a handcart. Personally I don’t buy it. I don’t believe a profession of such talent, energy, drive and imagination can be anything other than a success, provided we are prepared to adapt, recognise weakness and exploit strength. The problem is not that we lack for talent, but that we do not value and develop all the talents we have – we need to find a way to develop and use all of our talents I am not pretending that LawFest is the answer, but I believe training is stale and learning has become a clichéd parody. Collecting CPD is not personal development, is not learning, is not anything except a small tick in a largely irrelevant box. If we cannot be bothered to explore, to learn, to debate, to challenge, to dream and to create, how will we develop and how can we succeed? The idea and the passion behind LawFest is to challenge the personal development model. This is has been our passion for many years in all that we do. LawFest is a statement of intent to take these messages further and deeper into the profession. For you to be at the start of something, before ideas are settled or accepted, is never an easy call. Frankly we may fail. So your trust to be here at the beginning, to step forward not to hang back, is truly humbling and something we will never forget. Thank you. The ingredients of LawFest are inspirational people, some new ideas, some old ideas reshaped, a space to listen, to talk, to laugh and to try. Ingredients, but not a recipe. There is no recipe. However with these ingredients it would be a shame if we did not cook.
