NOVEMBER 2019 Classic Clatter The Journal of the Classic & Enthusiasts Motor Cycle Club of NSW Inc. WWW.CEMCC.ORG.AU South Ride 09/10/19. A little chilly and windy but still had a good run. Photo shows members Grant Nichols, Mike Marciniac and Greg Cheney. Submitted by Richard Ementon, photo by Michael Gilchrist. “This bike is a work of metal art. The details Moto Guzzi went to are amazing. Truly beautifully over engineered. Also, a pleasure to ride! Another great restoration from Doug Newall” – October’s Ron Foye Ride. Comment by Pete Van Linden, courtesy CEMCC Facebook page. Two Stroke Tuesday 8/10 Fifteen bikes, twelve of which were two strokes, smoked their way from the Lighthouse to the Cafe on Point Street Bulli. (Top two and middle left photos) October's Ron Foye ride 2/10, went to Fitzroy Falls Dam picnic area. Great day for riding with over 30 members, friends and family out in the Highlands. We have received an acceptable quote ($220) to redraw the club logo as a permanent electronic image (vector image). This will enable us to reproduce the logo more accurately, without having the loss of quality we are currently experiencing, as a result of years of photocopying. Over the years, 4 different renditions of the logo have appeared and now we plan to have one, universal, image for all our artwork, as depicted in the original 70’s machine badge sketch (Inscriptions will be included). At the Last meeting we had a laugh as several members remembered to dress up with their favourite Hats / Tees and Logos. We should encourage more ‘Mad Hatters’ at every meeting! It’s not too late to volunteer for next year’s committee. Remember, any member from any branch can be on the committee. We are looking for a volunteer to fill the role of Treasurer. Damien Olbourne has done an excellent job in setting up a master spread sheet for all financial transactions, making it very easy for someone to take over, therefore, anyone with a good head for figures and a basic understanding of Microsoft Excel would find it an easy position to fill. We are also looking for a Motor Cycle NSW liaison officer to receive emails and ensure any, show day or rally insurance certificates are available to our relevant committees. This is an armchair job, easily done on any computer, just waiting for you to volunteer. The Oberon Rally has been kept alive this year, however we are in need of a Rally director and sub-committee. All the preparation, with local community contacts, catering for morning teas, lunches, dinners and BBQ’s has been documented and is in place for anyone to run a future rally in the area. An easy job for anyone with a map and compass. We also have a vacancy on the Sydney Events committee to help organise local runs, liaise with Greg Cheney to assist with updating calendar events and with the promotion of inter-club activities. A most rewarding position suitable for someone just like you. Yours in Motorcycling………….David QUIZ QUESTIONS Q. What bike did Marlon Brando ride in the ‘Wild One’? Q. Reading Alan Harper's comments regarding his namesakes around the traps in the latest Occasional Comments, reminds me that David Lewis is not exactly an uncommon name. One who used to get coverage in the media from time to time was a well known Antarctic scientist. There was an ABC reporter a few years ago also called David Lewis. I heard him many times on the radio before he appeared on TV. So that is what I look like! But the David Lewis who blotted his copybook and really dragged the good David Lewis name through the mud came to prominence briefly about thirty years ago. And he only achieved his notoriety through a blunder by a Department of Social Security employee.
