Our students have earned the reputation of being winners in the classroom and on the field of competition. Last year we received the ACT College Readiness Award for the third year straight year. LHHS celebrated a UIL Academic Regional Championship team that advance three teams to state and brought home a State Championship in Social Studies. Our Sweepstakes winning band advanced to the area marching contest. An unprecedented 42 band members earned Regional honors while six were named to the All State Band. Our Panther athletic teams won five district championships. What honors will you help contribute to our rich tradition? What an exciting year this is starting out to be! We have a brand new athletic complex at the new high school, and the facilities at the new junior high are second to none. This year Message from we are laying the ground work to participate in UIL soccer and team tennis beginning in fall of 2014. We expect our athletes to continue to play at the same level of championship play as previous athletes have. I take Jerry Vance great pride in the fact that the Liberty Hill athletics program is recognized as one of the most competitive LHISD Athletic Director TOTAL athletic programs in the state. We have consistently competed in post district play in every sport, we are making deep runs in the play-offs; we are making Winning Championships a habit. We have a great coaching staff, state-of-the-art facilities and a winning attitude. Nothing is lacking. Our programs include volleyball, football, baseball, softball, and the boys’ and girls’ sports of cross country, basketball, track, tennis, power lifting and golf. We are playing in district (8AAA) and playing in a new region (1). Our District includes Burnet, Llano, Lampasas, Brownwood and Gatesville. I would urge each and every student to participate in athletics as well as other extra- curricular activities to enrich your educational experience. We have some of the best coaches, trainers, band directors and sponsors in the state. I believe Liberty Hill I.S.D. is poised to accomplish even greater achievements. Get Involved! Let’s win championships in 2013-2014 Jerry Vance Athletic Director Liberty Hill Independent School District 5 LIBERTY HILL COACHES JERRY VANCE MIKE KRISTAN, JR. ATHLETIC DIRECTOR FRESHMAN HEAD COACH HEAD FOOTBALL COACH ASSISTANT VARSITY FOOTBALL- OFFENSIVE LINE Athletic Director Jerry Vance is head coach for the Panthers – his 13th HEAD VARSITY BASEBALL COACH since taking over the LHHS football program in 2001. Vance also begins Mike Kristan begins his 15th year at Liberty Hill (and 21th year coaching his 36th year in coach overall. In addition to football, Vance has coached overall). Kristan coaches the Quick Side of the Line on varsity and is head track, men’s & women’s basketball and has taught math, health, coach of the LHHS freshman team. Kristan graduated from Murray State physical education and driver’s education. Vance graduated from Hobbs College with an Associates degree before earning a Masters degree – and High School in Hobbs, New Mexico. He then earned a Bachelor of Science Bachelor of Science degree – in Education from Henderson State University. Kristan has also coached degree from West Texas State University and a Master’s Degree in Education from Corpus Christi football, basketball, track and baseball at Grisham and Deerpark Middle Schools as well as Liberty State University. In his time away from school, Vance enjoys fly fishing and reading. Hill Middle School. Mike, who graduated from nearby Westwood High School in 1987, is married to DeeDee Kristan (an assistant principal at LHHS) and has four children: Ryan, Justin, Tanner and Haley. CHARLES “DOC” HARRINGTON Away from his coaching duties, Mike enjoys golf, water painting and sports on ESPN. ASSISTANT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR HEAD ATHLETIC TRAINER JOHN HALL Charles “Doc” Harrington handles the duties of head Athletic Trainer, as ASSISTANT VARSITY FOOTBALL- OFFENSIVE BACKS COACH well as Assistant AD, for the Panthers. This season makes his 12th year at ASSISTANT COACH POWERLIFTING Liberty Hill High School and 27th overall. Doc has had stops at El Paso John Hall begins his 3rd year at Liberty Hill (and 24th year coaching Eastwood, Midland Lee, Abilene Christian University and Odessa overall). Hall coaches the offensive backfield in varsity football and assists Permian before coming to Liberty Hill. Doc graduated from the in track and field by coaching the sprinters and high jump. Hall graduated University of Texas-El Paso (BS in Secondary Educations) and then from Texas A&I University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Abilene Christian (MS in Organizational Human Resource Development). He is a graduate of Odessa Education, Biology and Kinesiology. John coached in the following school High School. ASSISTANT HEAD FOOTBALL COACH HEAD POWER LIFTING COACH ANTHONY ESCOBAR ASSISTANT VARSITY FOOTBALL- OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS Robert Draper begins his 9th year at Liberty Hill (and 23rd year of coaching overall). Draper is assistant head football coach as well as the ASSISTANT TRACK COACH head coach of the LHHS powerlifting program. Draper coached football Anthony Escobar begins his 10th year at Liberty Hill (and 12th year coaching and track for eight years at Sweeny High School before mentoring overall). Escobar coaches the outside linebackers in varsity football and also football, track, golf and powerlifting at Needville High School. Robert serves as the school’s head coach for tennis. Escobar graduated from the earned his Masters in Education Administration from Lamar University University of Texas-San Antonio with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology after graduating from Iowa Wesleyan College with a Bachelor of Science before obtaining a Masters degree in Special Education at Southwest Texas degree in Biology. Draper, a graduate of Copperas Cove High School, is married to Lisa and they have State University (now known as Texas State University). Anthony coached at Lanier High School before two children, Kirsten and Colton. In his time away from school, Robert enjoys golf and yoga. coming to Liberty Hill; he’s coached track, basketball, tennis and football in his career. Escobar, a graduate of Southwest High School in San Antonio, is married to Kim and has two children, Brandon and JIMMY DUNCAN Brooklyn. Away from coaching, Escobar enjoys running, fishing and hunting.
