I must go and see him before ֵֽאְל ָ֥כְה וֶאְר ֶ֖אְנּוּ בּ ֶ֥טֶרָם אֽמוּת׃ (א) ַ ִויּ ַ֤סּע I die.” (1) So Israel set out with all that was ִיְשָׂרֵא֙לְוָכֲל־אֶשׁ֔ר־לַוֹ וָיּ֖בְֹא בּ ֵ֣אָר ָ֑ה שַּׁבע his, and he came to Beer-sheba, where he ִַויּ ְז ַ֣בְּח זָב ִ֔חֵים ל ֵ֖אהָי א ִ֥בִיו יְצ ָֽחק׃ (ב) offered sacrifices to the God of his father ַו֨יֶֹּאמֱר א ִ֤הְים ׀ לִיְשָׂרֵא֙לְבַּמְר ֹ֣אַת ה ַ֔לְּיָלה Isaac. (2) God called to Israel in a vision by night: “Jacob! Jacob!” He answered, ַו֖יֶֹּאמַר יֲﬠ ֹ֣קַב ׀ יֲﬠ ֹ֑קַב ו֖יֶֹּאמִר ה ֵֽנִּני׃ (ג) “Here.” (3) And He said, “I am God, the ַו֕יֶֹּאמָר אֹנ ִ֥כָי ה ֵ֖אֱל א ֵ֣הָי א ִ֑בַי אִל־תָּיר֙א God of your father. Fear not to go down to ֵמְר ָ֣דִה מְצ ַ֔רְיָמ ִֽה כְּי־ל֥גָוֹי גּ֖דֲוֹל א ִֽשְׂימ֥ ָֽשׁם׃ Egypt, for I will make you there into a (ד) ָאֹנ ִ֗כֵי א ֵ֤רִד ﬠְמִּ֙מְצ ַ֔רְיָמְה וָאֹנ ִ֖כ ַֽי אַﬠְל֣ great nation. (4) I Myself will go down with you to Egypt, and I Myself will also ַגָם־ﬠְ֑ה ו ֵ֕יוֹסָף י ִ֥שָׁית י֖דַוֹ ﬠֵל־ﬠ ֶֽיני׃ (ה) bring you back; and Joseph’s hand shall ַוָיָּ֥ קַם יֲﬠ ֹ֖קִב מְבּ ֵ֣א ָ֑ר שַׁבַע ִויּ ְשׂ֨אְוּ ב ֵֽנִי־יְשָׂר ֵ֜אל close your eyes.” (5) So Jacob set out from ֶאַת־יֲﬠ ֹ֣קֲב אִב ֶ֗יהְם וֶאַת־טָפּ֙םְוֶאְת־נֵשׁ ֶ֔יהם Beer-sheba. The sons of Israel put their father Jacob and their children and their ָבֲּﬠָג֕לֲוֹת אֶשָׁר־שׁ ַ֥לַח פְּר ֹ֖ﬠָה ל ֵ֥שֹׂאת אֽתוֹ׃ (ו) wives in the wagons that Pharaoh had sent ִַויּ ְק֣חֶוּ אִת־מְקֵנ ֶ֗יהְם וֶאְת־רָכוּשׁ֙םֲא ֶ֤שׁר to transport him; (6) and they took along ָֽרְכ֙שׁוְּבּ ֶ֣אֶרְץ כּ ַ֔נַﬠַן וָיּ ֹ֖בִאוּ מְצ ָ֑רְיָמַה יֲﬠ ֹ֖קב their livestock and the wealth that they had ְוָכַל־זְר֥ﬠִוֹ אֽתּוֹ׃ (ז) ָבּ ָ֞נְיו וּב ֵ֤נָי בָנ֙יוִא֔תּוֹ amassed in the land of Canaan. Thus Jacob and all his offspring with him came to ְבֹּנ ָ֛תְיו וּב֥נָוֹת בּ ָ֖נְיו וָכַל־זְר֑ﬠֵוֹ ה ִ֥בִיא א֖תּוֹ Egypt: (7) he brought with him to Egypt ִמְצ ָֽרְיָמה׃ (ס) (ח) ְו ֵ֨אֶלְּה שׁ֧מְוֹת בּ ֵֽנִי־יְשָׂר ֵ֛אל his sons and grandsons, his daughters and ַהָבּ ִ֥אִים מְצ ַ֖רְיָמַה יֲﬠ ֹ֣קָב וּב ָ֑נְיו בּ ֹ֥כַר יֲﬠ ֹ֖קב (granddaughters—all his offspring. (8 ְר ֵֽאוּבן׃ (ט) ְוּב ֵ֖נְי ר ֵ֑אוּבֲן ח֥נַוֹ וּפ֖לְּוּא וֶחְצ֥רוֹן ,These are the names of the Israelites ְו ַכ ְר ִֽמי׃ (י) וּ ְב ֵ֣ני ִשׁ ְמ ֗עוֹן ְימוּ ֵ֧אל ְו ָי ִ ֛מין ְו ֖ ֹא ַהד Jacob and his descendants, who came to ְו ָי ִ ֣כין ְו ֑ ֹצ ַחר ְו ָשׁ ֖אוּל ֶבּן ַֽ־ה ְכּ ַנ ֲﬠִֽנית׃ (יא) וּ ְב ֵ֖ני (Egypt. Jacob’s first-born Reuben; (9 Reuben’s sons: Enoch, Pallu, Hezron, and ֵלִ ֑וי ֵגּ ְר ֕שׁוֹן ְק ָ ֖הת וּ ְמ ָרִֽרי׃ (יב) וּ ְב ֵ֣ני ְיהוּ ָ֗דה Carmi. (10) Simeon’s sons: Jemuel, Jamin, ֵ֧ﬠר ְואוֹ ָ ֛נ ן ְו ֵשׁ ָ ֖לה ָו ֶ ֣פ ֶרץ ָו ָז֑ ַ רח ַוָ֨יּ ָמת ֵ֤ﬠר ְואוֹ ָנ֙ן Ohad, Jachin, Zohar, and Saul the son of a ְבּ ֶ ֣א ֶרץ ְכּ ַ֔נ ַﬠן ַו ִיּ ְה ֥יוּ ְב ֵני־ ֶ ֖פ ֶרץ ֶח ְצ֥רוֹן ְו ָח ֽמוּל׃ :Canaanite woman. (11) Levi’s sons Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. (12) Judah’s (יג) וּ ְב ֵ֖ני ִי ָשׂש ָ ֑כר תּוֹ ָ ֥לע וּ ֻפָ ֖וּה ְו ֥יוֹב ְו ִשׁ ְמֽרוֹן׃ sons: Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez, and Zerah (יד) וּ ְב ֵ֖ני ְזבוּ ֻ֑לן ֶ ֥ס ֶרד ְו ֵא ֖לוֹן ְו ַי ְח ְל ֵֽאל׃ (טו) but Er and Onan had died in the land of— ֵ֣א ֶלּה ׀ ְבּ ֵ֣ני ֵל ָ֗אה ֲא ֨ ֶשׁר ָֽי ְל ָ ֤דה ְל ַי ֲﬠ ֹק ֙ב ְבּ ַפ ַ ֣דּן Canaan; and Perez’s sons were Hezron and ֲא ָ֔רם ְו ֵ֖את ִדּי ָ ֣נה ִב ֑תּוֹ ָכּל־ ֶ ֧נ ֶפשׁ ָבּ ָ ֛ניו וּ ְבנוֹ ָ ֖תיו ,Hamul. (13) Issachar’s sons: Tola, Puvah Iob, and Shimron. (14) Zebulun’s sons: ְשׁ ִ ֥שׁים ְו ָשׁ ֽשׁ׃ (טז) וּ ְב ֵ֣ני ָ֔גד ִצ ְפ ֥יוֹן ְו ַחִ ֖גּי Sered, Elon, and Jahleel. (15) Those were שׁוִּ ֣ני ְו ֶא ְצ ֹ֑בּן ֵﬠִ ֥רי ַֽו ֲארוִֹ ֖די ְו ַא ְר ֵא ִֽלי׃ (יז) וּ ְב ֵ֣ני the sons whom Leah bore to Jacob in ָא ֗ ֵשׁר ִי ְמ ָ ֧נה ְו ִי ְשָׁ ֛וה ְו ִי ְשִׁ ֥וי וּ ְב ִר ָ ֖יﬠה ְו ֶ ֣שׂ ַרח Paddan-aram, in addition to his daughter ֲא ֹח ָ ֑תם וּ ְב ֵ֣ני ְב ִר ָ֔יﬠה ֶ ֖ח ֶבר וּ ַמ ְל ִכּי ֵֽאל׃ (יח) .Dinah. Persons in all, male and female: 33 (16) Gad’s sons: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, ֚ ֵא ֶלּה ְבּ ֵ֣ני ִז ְל ָ֔פּה ֲא ֶשׁר־ ָנ ַ ֥תן ָל ָ ֖בן ְל ֵל ָ ֣אה ִב ֑תּוֹ Ezbon, Eri, Arodi, and Areli. (17) Asher’s ַו ֵ֤תּ ֶלד ֶאת־ ֵ֙א ֶלּ ֙ה ְל ַי ֲﬠ ֹ֔קב ֵ֥שׁשׁ ֶﬠ ְשׂ ֵ֖רה ָֽנ ֶפשׁ׃ ,sons: Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi, and Beriah (יט) ְבּ ֵ֤ני ָר ֵח ֙ל ֵ֣א ֶשׁת ַֽי ֲﬠ ֹ֔קב יוֹ ֵ֖סף וּ ִב ְנ ָי ִֽמן׃ (כ) and their sister Serah. Beriah’s sons: Heber ַו ִיּ ָוּ ֵ֣לד ְליוֹ ֵס ֮ף ְבּ ֶ ֣א ֶרץ ִמ ְצ ַר ִי ֒ם ֲא ֶ ֤שׁר ָֽי ְל ָדה־לּ ֙וֹ and Malchiel. (18) These were the descendants of Zilpah, whom Laban had ָֽא ְס ַ֔נת ַבּת־ ֥פּוֹ ִטי ֶ ֖פ ַרע ֹכּ ֵ֣הן ֑ ֹאן ֶאת־ ְמ ַנ ֶ ֖שּׁה given to his daughter Leah. These she bore ְו ֶאת־ ֶא ְפ ָֽר ִים׃ (כא) וּ ְב ֵ֣ני ִב ְנ ָי ִ֗מן ֶ ֤בּ ַלע ָו ֶ֙ב ֶכ ֙ר to Jacob—16 persons. (19) The sons of ְו ַא ְשׁ ֵ֔בּל ֵגּ ָ ֥רא ְו ַנ ֲﬠ ָ ֖מן ֵא ִ ֣חי ָו֑רֹאשׁ ֻמ ִ ֥פּים ְו ֻח ִ ֖פּים Jacob’s wife Rachel were Joseph and ָו ָֽא ְר ְדּ׃ (כב) ֚ ֵא ֶלּה ְבּ ֵ֣ני ָר ֵ֔חל ֲא ֶ ֥שׁר יֻ ַ ֖לּד ְל ַי ֲﬠ ֑ ֹקב Benjamin. (20) To Joseph were born in the land of Egypt Manasseh and Ephraim, (כג) ָכּל־ ֶ ֖נ ֶפשׁ ַא ְר ָבּ ָ ֥ﬠה ָﬠ ָֽשׂר׃ וּ ְב ֵני־ ָ ֖דן ֻח ִֽשׁים׃ whom Asenath daughter of Poti-phera (כד) וּ ְב ֵ֖ני ַנ ְפ ָתּ ִ ֑לי ַי ְח ְצ ֵ֥אל ְוגוִּ ֖ני ְו ֵי֥ ֶצר ְו ִשׁ ֵֽלּם׃ priest of On bore to him. (21) Benjamin’s (כה) ֚ ֵא ֶלּה ְבּ ֵ֣ני ִב ְל ָ֔הה ֲא ֶשׁר־ ָנ ַ ֥תן ָל ָ ֖בן ְל ָר ֵ֣חל ,sons: Bela, Becher, Ashbel, Gera Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim, ִבּ ֑תּוֹ ַו ֵ֧תּ ֶלד ֶאת־ ֵ֛א ֶלּה ְל ַי ֲﬠ ֖ ֹקב ָכּל־ ֶ ֥נ ֶפשׁ and Ard. (22) These were the descendants ִשׁ ְב ָֽﬠה׃ (כו) ָכּל ֠ ַ־ה ֶנּ ֶפשׁ ַה ָבּ ָ֨אה ְל ַי ֲﬠ ֤ ֹקב of Rachel who were born to Jacob—14 ִמ ְצ ַ֙ר ְי ָמ ֙ה ֹי ְצ ֵ֣אי ְי ֵר ֔כוֹ ִמ ְלּ ַ ֖בד ְנ ֵ֣שׁי ְב ֵני־ ַי ֲﬠ ֑ ֹקב (persons in all. (23) Dan’s son: Hushim. (24 ָכּל־ ֶ ֖נ ֶפשׁ ִשׁ ִ ֥שּׁים ָו ֵֽשׁשׁ׃ (כז) וּ ְב ֵ֥ני יוֹ ֵ֛סף Naphtali’s sons: Jahzeel, Guni, Jezer, and ֲא ֶשׁר־יֻ ַלּד־ ֥לוֹ ְב ִמ ְצ ַ ֖ר ִים ֶ ֣נ ֶפשׁ ְשׁ ָ ֑נ ִים Shillem. (25) These were the descendants of Bilhah, whom Laban had given to his ָכּל ַ־ה ֶ ֧נּ ֶפשׁ ְל ֵֽבית־ ַי ֲﬠ ֛ ֹקב ַה ָ ֥בּ ָאה ִמ ְצ ַ ֖ר ְי ָמה daughter Rachel. These she bore to Jacob ִשׁ ְב ִֽﬠים׃ (פ) persons in all. (26) All the persons 7— belonging to Jacob who came to Egypt— his own issue, aside from the wives of Jacob’s sons—all these persons numbered 66. (27) And Joseph’s sons who were born to him in Egypt were two in number. Thus the total of Jacob’s household who came to Egypt was seventy persons.
