He also instructed Trustees Executors Ltd to set up a Deed of Arrangement to utilise the “residual” funds from his Estate, and invest them to provide a long-term income stream for our Club. The Estate was registered as a charitable entity by the Charities Commission on 30 June 2008. The Club at all times needs to be aware that the initial bequest and all subsequent income generated under the Deed may only be utilised by the Club for the following purposes: (a) The provision of coaching services at all grades; (b) the maintenance, upkeep and improvement of the grounds upon which the Club’s activities are centred or take place; (c) the provision of or improvement to the facilities and amenities of the Club, and (d) the general betterment of the Club as a whole, and the promotion of its interests. To ensure the income is so paid or applied in accordance with the terms of the Trust, it is a requirement that at all times there is an Advisory Committee of three persons who must give prior approval. Upon the death, retirement, resignation or removal from the office of any Advisory Committee member, the remaining two members will appoint another suitable person to fill the vacancy. The Advisory Committee shall make such rules and regulations to govern its functioning as it may determine and any such rules or regulations may from time to time be revoked, amended, replaced or modified with the unanimous approval of all Advisory Committee members. The first persons to hold office are Graham Thorne Dowling, Brian Charles Adams and Grant James Dickson. They, in conjunction with Trustees Executors, have, since 27 November 2009, embarked on a “conservative growth portfolio” strategy that both parties believe is in the best long term interests of the Club. At each balance date, annual accounts are prepared by Trustees Executors, and, once approved by the Advisory Committee, the net income, after setting aside an agreed percentage to add to the Trust Capital, shall be paid to the Club by Trustees Executors Ltd. 4 Burnside West Christchurch University Cricket Club CONTENTS Minutes Of The 107Th Annual General Meeting 6 Obituaries 10 Peter Burke 13 Brian Adams 16 Scott Inglis 17 Financial Report 18 Auditor’s Report 26 Chairman’s Report 28 Treasurer’s Report 30 Grounds And Machinery Report 31 Team Reports Premier Grade 32 Second Grade 2A 40 Third Grade 2B 45 The Cannons 47 The Brawlers 50 The Brewers 53 Foxes (Presidents) 59 Junior Cricket 63 Team Placings 66 Honours Board 66 Trophy Winners 68 Our Sponsors 70 http://www.burnsidecricket.org.nz/ Burnside West Christchurch University Cricket Club 5 MINUTES OF THE 107TH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING BURNSIDE WEST CHRISTCHURCH UNIVERSITY CRICKET Inc. General Business Graham Dowling commented on the Club’s ties with the University of Canterbury and expressed satisfaction that there was a competition last season within the University. Graham also noted the potential risk to the Club’s membership and relationship with the University arising from St Albans being based at Ilam Fields as a temporary post-earthquakes arrangement. Graham Dowling noted the post-earthquakes standards and constraints on buildings and queried how the Club was placed to manage this. Paul O’Flaherty replied that there is some strengthening (as opposed to remediation) required to comply with the new regulations. This is on the original downstairs section of the pavilion. These were subject to negotiations with FC2011 and its potential requirements for changes required to be taken undertaken so Senior Mainland grade games can be played at Burnside Park. Jerard Cross asked whether the club is required to have a women’s team for the club to play in Premier grade. Paul O’Flaherty responded that the Club is required only to provide a pathway for Junior girls to progress on to women’s cricket. The Club has plans to ensure this happens by signing an agreement with the Merivale Papanui Cricket Club, which does have women’s cricket. 8 Burnside West Christchurch University Cricket Club Brian Adams enquired why some Club trophies had not been awarded in 2011/12: the J.S. Patrick Cup, the W.S. MacGibbon Trophy and the J.M. McEwan Trophy. Paul O’Flaherty answered that this was due to some dis-organisation relating to the immediate post-earthquakes period and normality would be restored for the 2012/13 awards. Paul O’Grady queried the naming of a member who had not paid his 2011/12 subscriptions in the Annual Report, and noted his disagreement with this practice, particularly on the title page.
