The Clubhouse is an enrichment program for the Chapin and Brearley Schools for Kindergarten through Class Five in a collaborative after-school setting. Under the supervision of qualified Clubhouse personnel and teachers, students are given the opportunity to broaden their imaginations, increase their physical activity, and develop a deeper appreciation for the arts through the diverse range of activities offered each trimester. Dates for the fall trimester classes: Note that the fall trimester begins on Monday, September 12th, and ends on Monday, November 21st. Pollock, Director Tel: 212.570.1470 E-mail: [email protected] Information about the Program Schedule Kindergarten girls are escorted by their homeroom teachers to the Gordon Room at dismissal where they will have a snack and take a class from 3:00-3:40 pm. Dismissal will be at 3:40 pm from the North Door at Chapin, 100 East End Avenue. The Extended Day Program lasts from 3:40-5:45 pm, with dismissal at 5:45 pm from the North Door at Chapin. Girls enrolled in Clubhouse will not be able to ride the bus after Clubhouse. Class One and Two girls are escorted by their homeroom teachers to the Gordon Room at dismissal where they will have a snack and take a class from 3:45-4:45/5:00 pm. Dismissal will be from the location noted in the brochure. The Extended Day Program lasts from 4:45-5:45 pm, with dismissal at 5:45 pm from the North Door at Chapin. Class Three - Five girls will gather in the Gordon Room at dismissal or after their school clubs and activities have finished. They will be given a snack and can read, study, or play. Dismissal will be at 4:45/5:00 pm from the location noted in the brochure. The Extended Day study and play group lasts from 5:00-5:45 pm, with dismissal at 5:45 pm from the North Door at Chapin. Registration In order to register, please fill out an application, include a check (unless you receive financial aid) and a health form for each child and return all three to Alison Pollock, The Clubhouse, 100 East End Avenue, NY, NY 10028. The registration deadline is Friday, May 27th. There is a $35 late registration fee. Late registrations require at least forty-eight hours to process. Do not assume your daughter is enrolled until Alison Pollock has contacted you. Those receiving financial aid should submit both an application and a health form. You will be notified of the amount due. Applications will be processed in the order in which they are received. You will receive an electronic confirmation notice listing classes in which your daughter is enrolled upon receipt of your application. If a requested class is filled or canceled, you will be notified. If your child drops a class within the first two weeks, the remaining balance will be refunded; after two weeks there is no refund for dropped classes. Absences and Dismissals If your child is not planning to attend The Clubhouse on a particular day, notify the Lower School Office by 10:00 am to indicate a change in her dismissal for the day. Make sure that you have given the names of persons who are authorized to pick up your child on the registration form. We cannot release your child to anyone who is not listed on our forms. Parents are expected to have their child picked up at dismissal time. If a child stays beyond the time of dismissal, there will be a $10 charge. Repeated lateness will jeopardize further participation in The Clubhouse. Alison R. Pollock, Director Tel: 212.570.1470 E-mail: [email protected] Kindergarten Classes Monday Inventions-n-Concoctions Art-n-Orbit Instructors $405 In this class, girls will explore all types of scientific media in a variety of artistic formats. Art-n-Orbit is offering a course with brand new and exciting projects for the girls to make and take home. Everyone leaves an inventor! Dismissal is at 3:40 pm. Krafty K’s Wanda Diaz $360 Kindergarteners will be up to their elbows in hands-on fun as they explore the art and artifacts of their ever-expanding world. Wanda Diaz will capture the girls’ natural curiosity working with paint, paper, clay, and found materials while nurturing their creative and perceptual skills. Come and explore materials with your creative imagination! (Limit 10) Dismissal is at 3:40 pm. Tuesday Chess John MacArthur $450 Chess is an exciting game of strategy! Individual decision-making and creative problem-solving, in a fun environment, make learning chess special. Taught by instructors from Kids Chess Network, Inc., which has provided chess instruction to NYC schools since 1993, the class is divided between instruction and guided play. All levels of experience are welcome, and each girl learns, at her own pace, the different chess openings, strategies and tactics. Dismissal is at 3:40 pm. It's Sew Fun China Aroh $360 Girls will learn terminology used regularly in sewing, as well as all the basic skills that are the building blocks of the art. Each new technique is taught via the creation of actual projects, such as hats, scarves, capes, and accessories, thereby allowing the girls to learn a new skill and create an item to wear or display. A rewarding hobby that will last a lifetime! (Limit 12) Dismissal is at 3:40 pm. Dance Adventure Laura Klos-Gunther $360 In this class, girls will explore different movements of dance with various music styles, tempos and themes. We will use fun props to create a world of magic and movement. Learning new dance steps using games and music, this class will keep everyone dancing! (Limit 10) Dismissal is at 3:40 pm. Alison R. Join the exciting world of drama. Children will explore basic dramatic experiences through music and stories from their own imaginations. Activities are aimed at increasing confidence, imagination, and verbal skills. At the end of the trimester, the girls will present a short production for family and friends. Dismissal is at 3:40 pm. Gymnastics Carlton Farrier $405 The girls will learn the basics of gymnastics from highly experienced and safety-certified Chapin faculty who coach the sport. This class will promote fitness, enhance self-esteem, aid in individual development and social interaction. Get flexible in the Chapin Gymnastics Gym! (Limit 12) Dismissal is at 3:40 pm. Thursday Kinder-Magic Magic Gurus $280 Be a part of the mystical and exciting world of magic! Each week the Magic Gurus introduce the apprentice magicians to a few different tricks. Girls will learn basic skills of Magic, designing and creating their own tricks. Amaze friends while making coins disappear and mystify family with the dancing popsicle stick! The program is designed to be fun and creative. We supply materials and expertise, girls supply enthusiasm! (Limit 10) Dismissal is at 3:40 pm. Super Soccer! Super Soccer Stars Coaches $350 Goooal! Dynamic international coaches work with small groups to develop soccer skills, self- confidence and teamwork in a fun, nurturing, non-competitive environment. Class is held at Carl Shurz Park or, in case of rain, under the pier at Brearley. Dismissal is at 3:50 pm. Alison R. Gifts from the Kitchen Evamarie Deevy $550 Creative cooking and baking for children. Girls will learn basic cooking and baking techniques while making some of their favorite foods. Enjoy special holiday treats and Evamarie's famous brownies! Take home a cookbook at the end of the semester filled with recipes and memories. (Limit 10) Dismissal is from the Chapin North Door at 5:00 pm. Yogi Beans® Debbie Cohen $400 Stretch, breath, and relax! Taught by a certified yoga and pilates instructor, Yogi Beans is designed to help children develop better body awareness, coordination, flexibility and self-confidence. Yoga is a wonderful way to introduce a physical activity that is noncompetitive; it will instill a sense of calmness and relaxation in your child.
