Remember to check the supplements etc for arrival procedure as I am sure you all have. We had a great fly-in at Hawera thanks to Peter and Gloria Nunn, what a fantastic effort. Chapter Member Rob Fry has successfully flown his C180 ZK-FRY after a total rebuild, congratulations it looKs and sounds fantastic. I’m away Thursday night but will leave you in the capable hands of one of our committee members and Peter Jackson is going to speak on topdressing with Tiger moths. My DR107 wing is complete and I have primed it. Final painting won’t happen until I paint the fuselage. Looking forward to moving away from sanding. The mystery aircraft for February was a Boeing YL-15 or Scout and was provided by Sadly, the SAANZ Keith Weale. Both Steve Stride and Chris SportAvex fly-in at Grove identified the aircraft. Waipukurau had to be cancelled due to the weather forecast being so poor. The forecast turned out to be pretty much spot on with high winds, low cloud and heavy rain moving through the Hawkes Bay region on the Thursday, Friday and only clearing up around midday on the Saturday so the decision to cancel was definitely the right one. Fortunately however, Pete and Gloria Nunn from New Plymouth stepped in to save the day, and at very short notice organised an alternate fly-in at Hawera airfield instead. The weather in Hawera turned out to be brilliant over the weeKend and around forty aircraft attended the fly-in. We were treated to spectacular views of Mt TaranaKi and some The Boeing L-15 Scout or YL-15 was a small, great flying around the local district as well as piston engine liaison aircraft built by Boeing in great food and company. Other flying events that have occurred over the last month included the annual Tiger Moth Club AGM and fly-in at Whitianga and well as the Northern Microlight Club fly-in at Mata near Whangarei. Jon Farmer and Peter Beer tried to get to the Mata fly-in but encountered heavy turbulence on the coast west of Auckland so flagged it away and turned back.
