(11) General Business SUE O’DONNELL Secretary 15 April 2016 (*Available on the AOC’s website olympics.com.au) AWARD OF THE ORDER OF MERIT Tony Cole AO Tony Cole has made a significant contribution to the Australian Olympic Foundation (AOF) as National Practice Leader of William M Mercer (Mercer) since their appointment as strategic investment advisers to the AOF Investment Advisory Committee in 2000 Prior to joining Mercer Tony Cole had a long and distinguished career in the Australian Public Service as Deputy Secretary (Economics) in the Prime Minister’s Department; first Chairman of the Industry Commission (later to become the Productivity Commission); Secretary to the Treasury; and, ex-officio member of the Board of the Reserve Bank and Commonwealth Bank of Australia. Tony Cole led the Mercer team which proposed the investment strategy adopted by the AOF Investment Advisory Committee and the AOF in 2001 with the objective to protect and grow the AOF’s capital base whilst providing sufficient income for base distributions to the AOC towards its known commitments. Tony Cole continued to lead the Mercer team providing advice to the AOF Investment Advisory Committee and the AOF until his recent retirement from Mercer. The outstanding performance of the AOF during this time is detailed in the Annual Report of the AOF. The AOF and the AOC, as beneficiary of the distributions from the AOF, are truly appreciative of Tony Cole’s personal and, of course, Mercer’s great contribution to the Olympic Movement. We have at all times valued Tony Coles’ knowledge, experience, sound advice and integrity. Importantly he has been a special friend to all involved with the AOF. .
