HITEC Newsletter OCT 2009 Issue Event Highlights performance venue Star Hall – the New Mega Theater Brings Magic and Boosts the Movie Industry Star Hall, the integrated performance venue measuring 30,000 square feet, has impressed the audience with ultimate enjoyable experience in this summer by introducing 4 movie premieres, including „Harry Potter and the Half-Blood PrinceTM‟ (Jul 15), „Oh His Majesty‟s Secret Service‟ (Aug 5), „G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra‟ (Aug 6) and „The Message‟ (Sept 29), which successfully attracted over 8,000 audiences and received favorable comments from the public. “Building on the extensive experience on hosting successful concerts and performances, Star Hall collaborated with industry expertise in organizing movie premiere activities since early this year, which aims at providing more surprising entertainment experience than ever. The movie premiere of „Pan Zuo Liang‟ on Oct 20 was a fund raising event organized by Hong Kong Association of Youth Development, and co-organized by Hopewell Holdings Limited and Gold Typhoon. The movie is also one of the important films for celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of the People‟s Republic of China. Project Yi Jin Joint Exhibition and Joint Registration Day (Aug 8-9) The Yi Jin Project, which has offered continuing education to Form 5 school leavers as well as the adults who want to continue their study, has been held for 10 years since the year of 2000/2001. Joint exhibition and registration day of Yi Jin Project was held in HITEC at early Aug with 9 full-time institutions participated, and attracted over 20,000 visitors with over 10,000 registrations for the program. KITTY LAB Hello Kitty 35th Anniversary Project (Aug 13-30) “KITTY LAB” – the Hello Kitty 35th Anniversary Project was held at HITEC for 18 days from mid to end of Aug 09. The Hello Kitty-themed activity has been held at HITEC for three consecutive years and this year, the event has attracted over 75,000 visitors. The “KITTY LAB” journey began at the backdoor of a Sanrio concept store. This lead to a secret passage to Dr. Kitty‟s “KITTY LAB” where a simulated city was located. Upon entering the city, visitors were provided with a Kitty Gene and they must travel around each spots in the simulated city to collect components vital to Kitty‟s evolution program for shaping Kitty‟s personality and characteristics. Comic World HK 28 is one of the famous comic shows in town, which gathers young comic lovers to share their comic creations and hobbies with one another. The show is held twice a year in Feb and Aug, while Comic World HK 29 will be held on Feb 21, 2010 at Rotunda 1 and 2 of HITEC. Chibi Maruko Musical (Sept 4-6) Chibi Maruko Musical was staged at Star Hall of HITEC for 3 days from Sept 4-6, 2009. The musical was dubbed by Hong Kong pop stars including Charlene Choi (voice of Maruko), Eric Tsang Chi-Wai and Wong Cho Lam. Ding Yu, the famous and experienced dubbing artist in Hong Kong, also served as the Cantonese dubbing producer for the musical. The story is based on the childhood of the author (Momoko Sakura), which described her happiness and sadness about her family and school life. The show integrated with Peking opera, acrobatics, magic, dancing and singing which interpreting the connotation of the culture of Shanghai. In addition, 300 noted guests joined the opening cocktail of the show including Tung Chee Hwa, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People‟s Political Consultative Conference. Andrew Lam & Friends Concert 2009 (Sept 25-26) Andrew Lam, the famous lyricist in Hong Kong, has held his first concert in Star Hall on Sept 25-26 named “Andrew Lam & Friends Concert 2009”. The shows were in full house and received favorable comments by the public. Singers include To Lai Sa, Kenny Bee, Peter Cheung and Andrew Cheung etc have sung classic songs created by Andrew Lam and other guests included Eason Chan, Shirley Kwan, Justin and Edmond Leung have also come to support his concert. Designer of Hello Kitty, Ms. Yamaguchi Yuko was invited to Hong Kong to preside a two-day “Hello Kitty Workshop”. It was the very first occasion that Hong Kong Hello Kitty fans could closely contact with Ms. Yuko. At the same time, EMax also held “Hello Kitty Workshop Star Press Conference” and a number of celebrities who are also Hello Kitty Fans, including Elanne Kwong, Ciwi Lam, Ka-ki Leung and Ada Wong, were invited to this event. They enthusiastically asked Ms. Yuko to teach them drawing skills and were guided to draw their own design Hello Kitty. Ms. Yuko answered lots of questions raised by her fans during the workshop. She also shared her inspiration and demonstrated how to draw Hello Kitty to her fans. Finally, Ms. Yuko drew different Hello Kitty portraits for each of the attendant as souvenir and permanent collection. The program featured Environmental Protection and Drama Week, Innovation Week, Sports Week, Cooking Week and Pet Week with an emphasis on all-rounded development. Under the guidance of professional and caring teachers, students have enjoyed a fruitful and exciting summer holiday. To recognize students‟ painstaking effort and endeavor, EMax Max Kids Summer School Graduation Performance was held on 6 September 2009 when participants were awarded certificates as a token of encouragement for completing the program. Over 200 kids and parents joined in to watch the performances and sharing sessions by outstanding participants and course tutors. Guest performers including Ms. Purple Lee, the popular singer of child songs, brought fascinating entertainment to the audience, marking an end to EMax Max Kids Summer School program. Celebrities and guests were invited to officiate the opening ceremony on the same day. They included Dr. Chan Shou Ming, Chairman of Palace Restaurant; Mr. Ng Kong, Executive Director of Palace Restaurant; Mr. William Wong, Executive Director of Hopewell Holdings Limited; Ms. Paw Hee Ching, Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress; Ms. Nancy Sit and Mr. Wayne Lai, TV artistes; Mr. Yeung Koon Yat, World Class Chef; Mr. Tommy Cheung SBS.
