OUR MISSION: To develop and promote Rowing in Queensland in all its forms, to the highest levels, for the enjoyment and benefit of all stakeholders. The focus of Rowing Queensland’s Strategic Plan is to develop the capacity and capability and promote rowing in Queensland. There are six strategic priorities which we have pursued to achieve our mission: 1. Athlete High Performance - Creating the opportunity for those with the desire and talent to access the pathway to State and National Representation 2. Coaching Performance Development - Enable all participants to receive the coaching they need to perform at their optimum level 3. Improving the visibility of Rowing - Enhance & sustain the desired positioning of Rowing Queensland & its brands 4. Exchange Value with Sponsors and Government - Increase financial resources to underwrite the growth and future success of all levels of rowing and maximise the benefits realised from government and commercial rowing partnerships 5. The business of Rowing Queensland Inc is managed by or under the direction of the Board of Rowing Queensland. The Directors may exercise all the powers of the Company, except any power the Corporations Act or the Rules requires the Company to exercise in a general meeting of members. The Board is responsible for the appointment of the Chief Executive Officer who oversees all the day to day management and administration of the organisation. The Board meets eight times a year, comprising of 6 Directors elected by the members of Rowing Queensland for two year terms. Rowing Queensland Inc. Directors throughout 2010 were: PETER SCHRYVER (Chairman) Attended 7 of 8 meetings Peter is a pilot for Qantas Airways. He has been involved in rowing since 1990 and has rowed across regional Queensland for many years. Peter also represents our interests on the Australian Masters Commission. Peter has a background in human resources and has been involved in placing many of the current staff at Rowing Queensland in their positions. ADRIAN HOWARD (Retired in March 2010) Attended 2 of 3 meetings Adrian is a Senior Associate and client relationship manager for SKM, one of Australia's leading consultancy firms. Adrian was elected to the Board after the 2007 AGM attending his first meeting in April 2007 and has brought his engineering skills and corporate linkages to the Directorship over facilities management. Adrian is a competitive Masters athlete within the sport. BARNABY EATON (Retired in August 2010) Attended 7 of 7 meetings Barnaby is an experienced rowing coach and administrator with skills in strategic planning, program evaluation, coach education and event management. He has also competed recently in Masters Competition including the Australian Masters Championships in 2007 and 2009. Barnaby came onto the Board of Rowing Queensland in 2008. DEBORAH SANDFORD Attended 5 of 8 meetings Deborah was co-founder of one of Queensland’s leading public relations companies. Since retiring she formed her own consultancy, specialising in property and health care. She is foundation Member and President of River City Women’s Rowing Club. Deborah has extensive high-level public relations experience with the government and corporate sectors. TIM CONRAD Attended 6 of 8 meetings A 1976 Olympic rower, Tim is one of Queensland’s most experienced coaches having coached a number of state and national champions. Tim is the Queensland Academy of Sports Head Coach – Rowing working with Queensland’s elite rowers. Tim recently coached the Australian Men’s Four to a Silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. CHRIS MORTON Attended 7 of 8 meetings Chris is the Managing Director of Trinity Limited, an ASX listed property company. He is a solicitor by profession and has been a partner of an international legal firm. He has been involved in rowing since 1998, principally through the active involvement of his four sons and wife, Di. He has been President of the Property Council of Australia, sat on various government boards and chairs the Life Education charity in Queensland. 5 NICK PARR (elected March 2010) Attended 5 of 5 meetings Nick Parr is married with three children aged six to six months. Nick is the sole director of Calidad Property Group which he established after working for DTZ and PRD nationwide as a sales and leasing operative. With Calidad Nick focuses on value add opportunities within both the commercial office market and retail property sector. Nick was a member of the Kings Cup eight in 2008, and later that year made the transition to rowing surf boats for Currumbin Surf Lifesaving Club. Nick’s interest in becoming a member of the RQ Board is that he enjoys all forms of rowing, and hopes to offer a down to earth opinion from someone who has recently "been there". DAMIAN WRIGHT (appointed November 2010) Attended 1 of 1 meeting Damian has been involved in the sport of Rowing since 1977 as an athlete and later as a coach and Director of Rowing at both Brisbane Boys College and St Josephs' College Gregory Terrace - the later at which he is currently the Director of Sport. Damian combines both an educational background - a double major in Anatomy and Exercise Physiology - and is currently studying for a Masters of Business Administration, with a practical business interest having established and run a retail and manufacturing Jewellery business for a period of 15 years. ROBERT ALEXANDER (Regatta Secretary) Attended 8 of 8 meetings Robert has been involved in rowing in one form or another since 1961, where he commenced his rowing career at The Southport School. Bob has represented Queensland in the Kings and Presidents Cup on several occasions, as well as a Masters competitor in more recent times. Bob has been the organisation’s Regatta Secretary since 1987. The regatta secretary attends meeting of the Board however does not have any voting privileges. Staff of Rowing Queensland Inc. ROSS SYMONDS Ross was appointed CEO in September 2009. Ross has a long and successful career in sports administration and management spanning some 25 years. His previous positions in sport include: General Manager, Qld Volleyball; National Volleyball Coach; Operations Manager, Netball Qld; CEO of Qld Little Athletics and Manager/ Director of Sport & Recreation Services. CAMERON ALLEN Cameron has been the RQ Operations and Events Manger since October 2008. Cameron is a former rower from the Rockhampton Grammar School and Emmanuel College, and coaches College rowing through UQBC. Cameron joined the Rowing Queensland family from the ‘Gabba’ where he worked in the Event Management Department, and has a Bachelor of Arts (Sports Studies) from the University of Queensland. KYLIE CONWAY (resigned December 2010) Kylie has been Rowing Queensland’s Administration officer since March 2007, and is responsible for the organisation’s financial reporting and office administration. Kylie comes to the organisation with solid administration and financial experience gained from working in her family’s business and organisations such as the ANZ Bank. 6 CHAD KING Chad was a former rower with Nepean Rowing Club and Sydney Uni Boat Club and moved into coaching in 2001 working with The Kings School, Parramatta as well as The Lakes Rowers. Chad coached the Australian LTA 4+ to two gold medals in the 2002 and 2003 World Rowing Champs, before relocating to the UK and the Great Britain Rowing Team from 2005. In 2008 Chad was selected as Head Coach of Great Britain Paralympics Team winning two gold medals and one bronze medal in Beijing. SAMUEL PICKETT (resigned November 2010) Samuel’s appointment as Rowing Queensland’s Development Manager comes at the completion of his post graduate scholarship in biomechanics at the Australian Institute of Sport. Sam commenced his undergraduate studies at the University of the Sunshine Coast, and is a former competitive member of Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club. TOM HEFFERNAN Tom has been the Education & Safety Officer at Rowing Queensland since February 2010. Tom joined the Rowing Queensland family once he graduated from Griffith University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Business (Sport Management). A former Coxswain at Brisbane Boys’ College, Tom has a strong history of involvement in the sport. EMMA NELSON (appointed October 2010) After being a successful applicant with AFL Sportsready, Emma moved from Warwick to Brisbane to accept the position at Rowing Queensland as the Trainee Office assistant.
