REMATCH OF THE ATHENS OLYMPIC POLE VAULT HIGHLIGHTS PAYTON JORDAN U.S. OPEN MEMORIAL DAY AT NOON Pole vaulters Tim Mack (gold) and Toby Stevenson (silver) are two of the Olympians headlining fields for the 2005 Payton Jordan U.S. Open. Thrilling finals-only competitions in a fan-friendly atmosphere make Stanford the perfect place to celebrate Memorial Day. Here’s a look at some of the top athletes who’ll be competing starting at noon on May 30th: 2004 Olympic gold medalist Tim Mack in the men’s pole vault 2004 Olympic silver medalist Toby Stevenson in the men’s pole vault 2005 world leader John Godina in the men’s shot put 2004 Olympic silver medalist Adam Nelson in the men’s shot put 2003 World 200 meter champion John Capel in the men’s 100 2004 U.S. Olympian Grace Upshaw in the women’s long jump 2005 U.S. leader Anwar Moore in the men’s 110 high hurdles 2005 U.S. leader Khadevis Robinson in the men’s 800 meters 2004 U.S. Olympian Charlie Gruber in the men’s 1,500 meters. 2005 U.S. leader Kenta Bell in the men’s triple jump A free youth clinic will be held at the track beginning at 10 a.m. The first 200 participants, 14 and under, will receive a general admission ticket to the meet. The Payton Jordan U.S. Open will be televised by ESPN2 from 7- 8:30PDT. The meet is named in honor of former Stanford track and field coach Payton Jordan, who brought the 1960 U.S. Olympic Trials and the famed 1962 U.S.-U.S.S.R. track meet to Stanford.
