Canadian media critic Geoff Pevere had this to say about the Owen Sound film industry: “Owen Sound’s first annual Wild Lands Film Festival, held over a weekend last October, couldn’t have kicked off more aptly than it did. There is an aspect of the local experience that is at once depicted, celebrated and quietly put to task...People who had come to this gorgeous but industrially past-prime Ontario town to be nearer to nature, freer to be themselves and away from the things that otherwise distract us from imagining. These days, Owen Sound may have an unused rail station, a virtually unused bus depot and a lot of buildings that are no longer what they used to be, but it also has a surplus of artists, artisans, filmmakers, musicians and yes, people whom you can go to get your suit of medieval armour made. Dreams seem to be thriving there, and I have a very strong feeling we haven’t seen the last of them.” THE SCENIC CITY ON THE BIG SCREEN Films shot in or near Owen Sound: 1981 - Quest for Fire – scenes filmed in Lions Head Ontario 1985 – One Magic Christmas – scenes filmed in Owen Sound and Meaford 1992 – Psycho Pike scenes filmed in Sky Lake in Wiarton Ontario 1996 -
