476 Appendix 1, Scottish Links Appendix 1, Scottish Links OUTLINE DESCENDANT REPORT—CHIEF WILLIAM (REDCLOAK) BELL REVISION B The names, dates and locations outlined below are retrieved from many sources and as such cannot be totally or ac- curately authenticated. The authors posses primary and secondary sources for all of the many branches of Bell’s listed, but some dates and kinship lines may vary due to differences of various research publications. A “Bell of Blackethouse Chart,” first drafted by Donald Whyte, F.S.A., 27 March, 1986 and later revised by an un- known person, was obtained at the 2003 Clan Bell International Gathering at Daytona Beach Florida. Whyte’s genealogy data combined with mostly Charles Mosley, editor, Burke’s Peerage, Baronetage and Knightage 1050, 1051 and other data contained within the pages of this book are compiled and reconstructed below. The reader is advised to use this outline as a guide and follow up with his (her) own research and sources. This report is limited up to eleven out of a total of present day possible ^sixteen generations due to space limitations and privacy con- siderations of known living persons. Also be alert to: 1.) each individual’s information is generation numbered on a separate line, and each generation is indented slightly more than the one before it. Each descendant’s spouse is directly beneath him or her and is marked with a plus sign (+). Think of time and generations left to right horizontally. 2.) a ^(caret) to indicate that a specific fact (in the authors opinion) is either unproven, of questionable source, or a conflict of sources. Your authors have tried not to change the original source wording or spelling. 3.)# (number) of children listed for each parent as this is only an indicator of known children; i.e. there may be more children not on this record or children listed (not listed) by a previous or later spouse. 4.) facts are shortened and abbreviated to save space, thus sometimes are grammatically imperfect. 5.) the ages at death listed are occasionally calculated from born about (abt) dates and at best are only age estimates. An interesting tidbit, between 1550-1800 the average death age from the known of over fourteen thousand Bell kinship in this book is fifty seven years and two months. Also be aware of the before (bef), between (btw.), after (aft.). born (b.), married (m.), and died (d.) dates. 6.) spouses with multiple marriages may be identified with a bracketed number before their name, example [3] John Doe. Look for [3] John Doe elsewhere for another marriage. 7.) The reading of the indentures will quickly enhance the kinship relationship. For instance when reviewing, say the third generation, all ….3 indentured names are mostly siblings, but later, a limited few may include half siblings, first cousins or half first cousins. Siblings are listed in order of birth where possible. 8.) Internet sources existed at time of this book writing and some in time may be changed or removed.
