A perfect palate cleanser, Grüner pairs well with richly flavored, spicy and peppery foods. Choose chicken, pork, eggs, anchovies and shrimp for awesome results. With light body and high acidity Pinot Gris brings flavors and aromas of lime, lemon, pear, white nectarine and apple. Depending on where it is grown these wines will have floral and honey aromas as well, and give a light saline-minerality. Italian versions are typically bone-dry, while US and French versions are dry but more fruit-forward. Pinot Gris pairs well with fresh and raw vegetables and salads, white fish and shellfish. Typically avoid pairing with spicy foods due to the uncomplimentary high acidity. With wide ranging flavors the wines can be dry to sweet, still to sparkling. Flavors include yellow apple, quince, baked apple, stone fruits and melon, with oak bringing butterscotch, graham cracker and meringue. Pair with sweet and sour flavors such as balsamic vinaigrette, bbq sauce, apples and pears. Meat choices are pork, chicken and salmon. Cooler climates provide additional flavors of bell pepper, basil, grass and minerals.
