Thursday, May 13-American Graffiti (1973)-comedy, 110 min. Rated PG Richard Dreyfus, Ron Howard, Cindy Williams, Paul Le Mat, Harrison Ford, directed by George Lucas. Teenage friends decide on their future after graduating high school. Before Star Wars, this was the film that put Lucas on the map, with star-making turns from it’s young ensemble cast. Set in 1850’s Oregon, this rousing musical is known for it’s unusual choreography by Michael Kidd. Thursday, May 27-Anatomy of a Murder (1959)-drama, 160 min. James Stewart, Lee Remick, Ben Gazzara, George C. Scott, Eve Arden. Directed by Otto Preminger. Unusual courtroom story as Stewart plays a country lawyer defending a soldier who killed a man who allegedly raped his wife. Scott, in his film debut, is the big-city lawyer helping the prosecution. Thursday, June 3-The Americanization of Emily (1964)-comedy/satire, 117 min. James Garner, Julie Andrews, Melvyn Douglas, James Coburn. Script by Paddy Chayefsky. In the days before D-Day, an admiral’s adjutant is assigned to lead a film crew to photograph the 1st sailor on Omaha Beach. Garner and Andrews have both cited this film as the favorite of their careers. Thursday, June 10-Bad Day at Black Rock (1955)-mystery, 81 min. Spencer Tracey, Robert Ryan, Anne Francis, Walter Brennan, Lee Marvin. Directed by John Sturges. After WWII, a one-armed former soldier travels to the desert town of Black Rock and runs into a dangerous mystery. Dynamite cast also includes Ernest Borgnine, Dean Jagger in classic suspenser. Thursday, June 17-The Big Heat (1953)-film noir, 90 min. Glenn Ford, Gloria Graham, Jocelyn Brando, Lee Marvin. Directed by Fritz Lang. Ford plays a detective investigating a suspicious suicide involving police corruption. Thursday, June 24-Rio Conchos (1964)-western, 107 min. Richard Boone, Stuart Whitman, Anthony Franciosa, Jim Brown, Edmond O’Brien, Wende Wagner. Sprawling big-budget western involving stolen rifles and renegade Confederates joining with Apaches. .
