JUNE 2019 Principal’s Message Administration Greyhound Families, Principal The 2018-2019 School Year – Complete! The Class of 2019 Graduation – Memorable! The 2019-2020 School Year – Mr. Michael Rice Ready or not, here we come!! What a year it has been! Each and every day, I drive into the front entrance of the school, thinking about our school, knowing that what lies ahead will bring about nothing but pride and joy! This is especially the case here at the end of the year where our faculty, staff, and community highlight the incredible accomplishments of our Office Hours students through various scholarship banquets, awards nights, and end-of-year celebrations. Our students have 7:00 am - 3:00 pm worked hard and I am so proud of each one of them for the efforts they have put forth, and the achievements Monday - Friday they have earned. In late May, we celebrated the Graduation of the Class of 2019! It was a beautiful ceremony that featured 531 students who took their next, right step. Our celebration included recognition of the accomplishments of this great class, including the fact that nearly two-thirds of the students finished with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Another 80 students Lyman High School earned a 4.0 or higher, and the average GPA of our top ten Seniors soared at an unbelievable 4.64! Students from the Class of 2019 have been accepted into the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford, is committed Yale, Georgia Tech, The University of Florida, University of Central Florida, Florida State, Florida A & M, Bethune Cookman, Rollins, Seminole State and many others! During their time in high school, their club and organization to providing footprint increased from 67 groups to an astonishing 96 groups, due to many individuals taking the time to share their passion with others. This class also represented groups in our top notch Fine and Performing Arts groups educational who have consistently earned a Superior rating in District and State Assessments. Career and Technical Education is thriving with hundreds of our graduates earning Industry Certifications. And, our Academy of Engineering is full of innovation with 109 students proudly completing the intensive four-year program. Athletically, the Class opportunities that of 2019 had 13 athletes sign letters of intent with NCAA institutions, along with many others who received First and Second-Team All-Conference honors. Additionally, one of our Valedictorians was named the Seminole will prepare and County Scholar Athlete of the Year, and selected to the FHSAA Dairy Farmer Academic All-State Team. Ronald Reagan Boulevard Algebra I students finished a rigorous year with units on Statistics Longwood, FL 32750 and Function Analysis, while Geometry students concluded Issue #3 with Circles and Spatial Reasoning. Both courses ended strong with a comprehensive review for the EOC. Algebra II students concluded the year with a Statistics / Probability unit that included students designing and conduction their own survey of students at Lyman and analyzing the data collected to support suggested changes to Lyman's policies and practices. Then we took a quick peek into Trigonometric concepts with a Unit Circle and Trig Functions, before wrapping up the year with a comprehensive Function Analysis project. As we wind down the year, please be aware that there are summer assignments for Algebra 2 Honors, PreCalculus, and AP Calculus. The details for the assignments are on the Lyman HS website. These assignments are designed to be worked on for approximately 5-10 minutes each week and are due within the first few weeks of school.
