They are connected by Club Clusters 1, 2, and 3. As one of the 12 Governor’s Special Representatives appointed by DG Andy in July 2020 to start new clubs, I can say Northern Rivers has had the largest growth in membership this Rotary year. Cluster 2 has led the way by chartering 2 new clubs. Lismore Networking on 18 December 2020 and Evans Head on PDG Terry with DG Andy in Evans Head 28 January 2021. In DG Andy’s newsletter in September 2020, he wrote about “Never let a good crisis go to waste” a comment attributed to Winston Churchill during World War II. This was heeded by Lismore Networking, following a meeting in November 2019. Planning was underway to establish a Satellite Club. When COVID struck in March 2020, a prospective member said, seeing that we are unable to meet face to face let’s seek new members and form a stand- alone club instead. Starting a new club requires time, planning and dedication. President Rita Chand, a former Rotarian from Canberra and the members are to be congratulated on becoming Lismore’s first new club in 25 years. Brian and his wife Dianne are charter members of the Rotary Club of Evans Grafton 88 Head that we chartered with 22 members on 28 January 2021. Evans Head is a Casino 83 beautiful seaside town with 3,100 residents. As a one club one town community, I Kyogle 74 believe Rotary will thrive there. The last club sponsored by the Rotary Club of Maclean 67 Casino, was Kyogle on the 30 June 1947. That’s 74 years ago. Casino is proud Lismore West 60 sponsor of Evans Head Rotary. Alstonville 49 Goonellabah 39 Of the 15 clubs in Northern Rivers, 8 have increased their membership this year. 6 Yamba 38 have retained. Only one club lost 1 member. On 1 July 2020 the 15 clubs had a Ballina-on-Richmond 35 combined membership of 235. Today including the two new clubs the total Iluka Woombah 34 membership in the area is 321. Increase of 36%. The clubs that have achieved outstanding growth are Ballina-on-Richmond +27 (73%), Kyogle +3 (60%) Iluka Grafton Midday 32 st Summerland Sunrise 25 Woombah +6 (45%) Grafton Midday +5 (20%) On 1 July 2020 our district membership was 1177. Today it is 1351. DG Andy’s Crazy Big Goal of 1400, that Lismore Networking 1 some of us thought was ambitious, is now within reach.
