Cabernet Sauvignon 60%, Shiraz 32%, Cabernet Franc 8% Presented in a Wooden Case 7 LOT 5 Estimated Value: R45,000 Ledaig Dùsgadh 42 YO Single Malt Scotch Whisky 1 x 700ml, donated by Distell This extraordinary and unique whisky is the oldest Ledaig bottled since the distillery reopened in 1972. Dùsgadh means ‘Awakening’ in Gaelic and it shares its birth with the first Ledaig distilled in 1972, making it the most significant whisky they created. However, this is only the beginning of Dùsgadh’s story. Distilled with peated barley, the inaugural run was laid to rest in hogsheads and butts in their warehouse on the Isle of Mull. This cherished liquid was then masterfully transferred into Olorosso sherry casks where for 14 years it blossomed to become the glorious Ledaig. Only 500 bottles were produced. Included in the box is a handcrafted copper memento cut from the now retired spirit stills that produced this original liquid. In 2024, it entitles the bearer to inherit a bottle of the last ever Ledaig (Ledaig Déanta) distilled in them, a personal reminder of their fabulous legacy. Tasting Notes: Colour: Chestnut Nose: Rich and complex, intense phenolic sherry aromas. Sooty smokiness, fragrant wood, toffee apple, briny with some sweet biscuit maltiness. Palate: Quite dry evolving to a rich smoky oloroso sherry character. Massive complex layers of dark chocolate, coffee and cherry liqueurs. Extremely smooth, well balanced with spicy ginger and black peppercorn overtones. Finish: Dry, smooth and spicy, satisfying and very long with a salty smoky tail.
