It has a campus of more than 800 acres with 60 permanent buildings that provide the latest in modern higher educational facilities. The enrollment at the beginning of the 1963-1964 academic year was 9,185 with students from 81 Ohio counties, 43 states and the District of Columbia plus 22 foreign countries. Included on the campus are a 14,000-seat football stadium, a 5,700-seat basketball area, golf practice area, natatorium, 19 tennis courts, CAA-approved airport with surfaced runways, speech and hearing clinic, reading center, a library with volumes in excess of 340,000, a memorial chapel and other educational facilities. Seventeen fraternities and 12 sororities are located on campus along with eight residence centers that accommodate most of the university's students. Bowling Green is expanding its plant to provide the best possible environment for university life and to meet the needs of an in- creasing enrollment. Since 1955, 16 buildings, Rogers Quadrangle, Alice Prout Residence Hall, Hall of Music, Founders Quadrangle, University Union, Home Economics Building, South Hall, Over- man Hall, Fine Arts Building, Memorial Hall, Conklin Quadrangle, Women's Residence Center, Administration Building, Dining Center, a new residence center and the Kohl Hall addition, have been completed. In the near future, construction will start on a new library, science complex, health center, additional dormitories and football stadium. The first classes started at Bowling Green in 1914 with a faculty of 21 and an enrollment of 304. No significant expansion came until 1929 when Ohio's General Assembly renamed the school Bowling Green State College and provided funds for the develop- ment of a liberal arts college offering professional and pre- professional training. The school was renamed Bowling Green State University in 1935 as other undergraduate schools and the graduate school were added. Today, the university is composed of three undergraduate colleges, College of Liberal Arts, College of Education and College of Business Administration, along with the Graduate School that offers master's degrees in seven fields plus a Doctor of Philosophy degree. Southern Illinois—the team from Carbondale, 111. has never beaten Bowling Green . the record stands at 5-0 .. BG has scored 122 points to 26 for the Salukis . the closest they got was 23-14 at the first meeting of the two schools in 1959 ... the '60 team lost 27-6 after coming here with a 7-0 mark and numerous fine players including Houston Antwine and Amos Bullocks . a Saluki: a swift, keen-sighted, graceful hunting dog bred in Persia, Arabia and Egypt. North Texas State—the first time the two schools have met . the Falcons go against a team coached by one of the deans in the college ranks-Odus Mitchell . Mitchell was ranked 19th in the nation last year with a slate of 106-63-8 for a .621 percentage . the team slipped to 3-6 last season . '64, Mitchell's 18th year at North Texas and 40th as a head coach . played two spring games . the Eagles travel to five different states (Kentucky, California, Illinois, Oklahoma and Kansas) for games plus hosting squads from Ohio, Texas and New Mexico. Dayton—the series stands at 6-2 against Dayton's Fighting Flyers ... a Perry coached team has never lost to Dayton . under Perry, the Falcons have blanked the Flyers three times and given them only 18 points in five games ... in the two schools' first meeting, BG was slaughtered 41-0 . last year's common oppo- nents : Toledo, Ohio, Xavier, Miami and Kent. Western Michigan—aside from a 20-15 win in 1954, the Broncos have failed to defeat BG . the Falcons have won six straight . Western's new coach William Doolittle is a graduate of Ohio State .
