Tickets and travel cards in the Greater Copenhagen region When you’re a tourist, you can choose between different forms of tickets and travel cards which are all valid for both buses, trains and Metro in the Greater Copenhagen region. Your choice depends on how much and how you choose to move around during your stay. Single tickets You can buy single tickets that are valid for a stated time period and a specific number of zones, depending on how far you’re going. Single tickets are the obvious choice, if you prefer mainly to walk around town and sometimes choose to take a bus. Discount cards (Danish: Klippekort) If you plan on taking the bus, train or metro several times during your stay, it’s cheaper to use a discount card than buying single tickets. Discount cards are available for 10 journeys within two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight or all zones. If, for instance, you buy a discount card for two zones, you have to punch the number of times corresponding to the number of zones you’ll be travelling through. You can see the number of zones on the special zone maps at stations and bus stops. An example is given in the attachment of this document. On the back of the discount card, you can see how long the clip is valid. Several people can travel together on a discount card. This makes the discount card the obvious choice for a group of people who want a flexible solution when moving around town. 24‐hour ticket The 24‐hour ticket offers you 24 hours of unlimited travel by bus, train and Metro throughout all the zones of the Greater Copenhagen region. One adult can bring along two children under the age of 12 free on a 24‐hour ticket. Children under the age of 16 can buy a 24‐hour ticket at half price. City Pass The City Pass gives you unlimited access to buses, trains and Metro in the centre of Copenhagen and to and from the airport (zones 1, 2, 3 and 4). You can buy a 24‐hour or a 72‐hour City Pass for adults or children under the age of 16. FlexCard 7‐days The FlexCard allows you unlimited travel by bus, train and Metro for seven days in the number of zones, you pay for. One adult can bring along two children under the age of 12 for free. Two children under the age of 16 can travel together on a FlexCard. The FlexCard is not personal and can therefore be shared among several people travelling at different times. 1 CPH Card The CPH Card is what you need, if you’re planning on visiting several museums and sights during your stay. The card gives you free admission to more than 75 museum and sights, unlimited travel by bus, train and Metro in the Greater Copenhagen region and discounts on a number of activities, restaurants etc. The card is valid for either 24, 48, 72 or 120 hours for both adults and children. Where to purchase your tickets or travel cards You can purchase your tickets or travel cards at most stations, a number of kiosks and at 1415.dk. You can also purchase your tickets or travels cards via your mobile phone. Furthermore, you can purchase single tickets from bus drivers, and you can purchase your City Pass at Copenhagen Airport. The CPH Card can only be purchased at visitcopenhagen.dk. You can find a zone map of the Copenhagen area at all places where you can buy tickets. An example hereof is given in the two attachments. You should always start to count the amount of zones from the red area of the map, which is identical to the area of your location. Find the area of your final destination and compare the respective color code with the amount of zones given in the table at the lower right corner. If you (see Zone‐1 attachment) are at the city center and want to go to DTU, you have to pay for 5 zones. The Campus is north of Copenhagen and located in the purple area that stands for 5 zones. Are you coming from the airport (see Zone‐4 attachment) and want to go to DTU you have to pay for 6 zones. In that case Lyngby corresponds to the orange area that represents 6 zones. Notice that going to DTU requires one extra zone than going to Lyngby station. Some zone examples: 6 zones from the airport to DTU campus 5 zones from Copenhagen city center to DTU campus 3 zones from Copenhagen city center to the airport More info for understanding zones in Copenhagen can be found here: http://www.fyidenmark.com/zones.html 3 Public transportation to DTU There are several easy ways of getting to Nørreport station, from which there is easy connection to Lyngby station and DTU.
