This will be followed by a Lent lunch at different homes around the parish. Call Joanne on 01285 740301 for details about venues, and to book a place for lunch. Also, throughout March, Compline will be said at Bibury, every Tuesday at 5:00pm, and at Barnsley every Friday at 4:00pm. This will include a time of open prayer for the needs of the world and our village community. On Sunday 22 nd March Bishops Rachel and Robert will be visiting the South Cotswold Team as part of their episcopal pilgrimage. We are holding joint team services that day, with only one service, 8:30am Said BCP Holy Communion at Bibury. A full programme for the day is included in Village Life. Other speakers that weekend include former cabinet minister and ex-convict the Revd Jonathan Aitken, who has written about both Chuck Colson and John Newton. He speaks on Saturday 28 th March at 10:00am. Distinguished Church Historian Professor Sir Diarmaid McCulloch will consider the lives of Thomas Cromwell and Thomas Cranmer about whom he has written so brilliantly on Friday 27 th March at 6:00pm. This promises to be a real treat, as we are taken into the true story of Wolf Hall. BibLit Teas As I mentioned last month, I am leading the BibLit tea team in the Village Hall on Saturday 28 th and Sunday 29 th March and am looking for volunteers to serve tea and lunch, wash up, and make cakes and soup. Since the Village Hall is where the book signings all take place it’s a great venue for meeting all the authors informally. All profits will go to support Ignite. If you can spare an hour or two on either day, do PLEASE let me know. There will be an informal meeting for all BibLit volunteers on Monday 2nd March at 6:00pm . Drinks, nibbles and chat! VE Day Friday 8 th May is the 75 th Anniversary of VE Days and special events are to be held around the village over this weekend to mark this event. With events at the Football Club on Friday, a street party with traditional games and tea planned for Saturday, and Village Hall teas with the Gardening club and a special service of Commemoration on the Sunday. If you would like to be involved in the Street party in any way do please let me know. Welcome On Thursday 30 th April at 7:30pm we welcome the Revd Simon Brignall as Vicar of Coln, Hatherop and Quenington. Bishop Rachel will conduct the Licensing Service at St Nicholas Hatherop. It is also joy to be able to announce the appointment of a new Vicar to Castle Eaton, Kempsford with Welford and the Meyseys. It is the Revd Kim Brown, former leader of The Upper room in Cirencester. She will be licensed in late May In Memoriam We give thanks for the life of Jerry Kemp on Tuesday 3 rd March at 2:00pm at Cheltenham Crematorium. Jerry died peacefully on Sunday 9 th February. We pray for his widow Alison and the whole family. Tim Hastie-Smith 4 Episcopal Pilgrimage to the South Cotswolds Team Mothering Sunday 22 nd March 2020 8:30am: Said BCP Holy Communion at Bibury as we prepare to welcome the Right Revd Rachel Treweek and the Right Revd Robert Springett 10:00am Parish Communion - Lechlade and Kempsford , one celebrated by the Bishop of Gloucester and the other by the Bishop of Tewkesbury. There will not be other mid-morning services in the team that day. From 12 Noon - Bring and share lunch in Fairford Community Hall, to which all are invited. 1.30pm Walk/pilgrimage from Fairford to Quenington. 3.30pm : Tea at Quenington Village Hall - and from 4pm a Question and Answer session with the Bishops.
