Jesus' words are so important for all to hear. In the fast-paced, noisy, world of ours, we so desperately need quiet, silence, rest and reflection, all of which are special elements which give place to meaningful prayer and spiritual health. Although annual vacations are important, even they can be noisy, frenetic, and distracting. As such, we must jealously make provisions to attend to our interior equilibrium. We desperately need quiet time, relaxation, time for meditation and reflection on the ultimate meaning of our lives. Sometimes, we may even find a formal retreat, perhaps a private, guided or directed retreat to be exactly the "deserted" place of which our Lord speaks. A spiritual vacation may renew and refresh us in more ways than we can currently imagine.
