There is every chance our 2020/21 season will be pushed back due to football but if that means that the recent pandemic has ceased then we cannot complain as life will hopefully be back to normal. It has now been two seasons without a senior premiership which is something that I feel we need to address from the top down. It is certainly not due to a lack of effort and our committee, coaches and captains who put in a great deal of effort through the season to give us the best chance for success. I feel that we are a victim of our own successes in recent years, often playing against other club’s higher teams. Having said that, our lack of recent success is something we need to rectify. We need to strive to be better and put measures in place to ensure we add to that premiership list in 2020/21. Thank you as always to our faithful sponsors who contribute to the club financially and continue to support us, especially through the tough times we now face. Special thanks to our two major sponsors in Paul Money Partners (Paul & Liam Money) and LSA Partners (Marty Anderson) who continue to support us and have for a very long time. Thanks to Paul, Liam, Marty and all our sponsors for their dedication to our club and to Liam and his sponsorship committee for their work this season. Our transition period entered a second season with the departure of more players due to retirement and seeking to spend more time with family. Whilst that hurt us in some areas, it also gave us the opportunity to have some young players in the higher grades such as Dillon Pote which will only hold us in good stead for the future. Well done to Andy Villani who captained the club for a second season and did a great job leading from the front. Andy’s job was made even harder with the birth of Mia over the off-season so well done on juggling that extra responsibility AV! Well done to Andy and Dillon Pote who both made the Barclay Shield Team of the Year for 2019/20 which is just reward for great individual seasons. Well done to all our captains in Mathew Doyle, Scott Gibbs, Tom Money, Matt Newell and Robin Parsons who did a great job leading their respective teams. All teams were in the finals mix with our bottom four teams reaching a semi-final and Matt Newell’s 5th XI reaching the grand final. Whilst it was not our weekend in the grand final, we had a raft of young players come through the ranks which was great to see and puts us in a good position to push for success in the future. Thank you to the best coach in the DVCA Luke Rosbrook who led us once again this season. Luke does a lot of work behind the scenes as well as at training, whilst also juggling being a leading teacher and having three children. It is no easy task, but Luke goes about his business with a minimum of fuss so thank you Rozzi for all your hard work. Luke was ably assisted this season by Steve Villani who joined us after a year in Italy. We thought Steve may have mellowed over this time but if anything, he returned even more intense and even hungrier for success. Well done Steve and thank you for your leadership this season. Thank you to our batting coach Jeff Callaway who worked with all of our batsmen in learning and getting better at the craft. Thank you for your guidance and dedication to our batting group. Thank you to Scott Gibbs who took it upon himself to help with the coaching of our players. Scott is a magnificent Riverside person and we are lucky to have someone of his calibre in our ranks. Thank you to my hard-working committee who as always did a magnificent job in managing the club. It was another big year for Riverside and the club relies on everyone’s work in co-ordinating functions, stocking the bar, running the canteen and a hundred other things that usually go unnoticed and unthanked. Thank you to: Chris Salm, David Hyland, Martyn Anderson, Brett Money, Paul Sinclair, Steve Bowler, Matt McMaster- Smith, David Hoobin, Matt Newell, Nathan Hoobin, Aidan Amenta, Brett Lewis, John Miles, Kym Ellks, Wissam Ali & Luke Morgan. Special mention to Brett Money who does an amazing amount of work at the club, and away from the club which takes the pressure off everyone else. I could not think of a more deserving winner of the David Hyland Award for best clubman. A couple of special thankyous; To Marty Anderson our treasurer who puts in countless hours for Riverside. We are all lucky to have you Martyn and we are glad you survived America and quarantine. Thank you, Marty. Thanks to Nick Ellks for co-ordinating our private functions yet again. The club relies on these functions in order to keep operations (and the bar) ticking over so thank you Ellksy. A big thank you to Kym Ellks who again has done a magnificent job coordinating the canteen and the afternoon teas this season. Kym is the first to arrive (usually before the sun is up on a Saturday) and the last to leave (not before telling Nick & Harry to behave) and we would be lost without you Kym so thank you once again for all your efforts. A very special thank you to April Anderson, Kristy Doyle & Jaymee Money who helped with the co-ordination and organisation of our Pink Stumps & Gracie’s Gift Day where we once again managed to raise a phenomenal amount of money for our cancer charities, RCD Foundation and the McGrath Foundation.
