More manpower is required. More instruction booklets and schedules need to be printed. More expenditure have to be incurred. The 1991 Census Operations can be said and will be remembered as the biggest administrative exercise of the twentieth century. Though a central subject, census taking itself is being done by the State Government through their District Administration. Co-operation of the State Government in this regard has been enthusiastic and excellent. The data presented in this volume are the result of that fine co-operation. The volume contains the A-Series tables A-l to A-5. Tables A- t to A-4 are such followed by a few statements and a few appendices. The 1991 Census in Nagaland was conducted under the able guidance of Shri S.R. Luhadia, Ex-Director of Census Operations, Nagaland. I would be failing in my duty if I do no record my sense of appreciation of the excellent job he had done. On his behalf I very sincerely express my deep sense of gratitude to the Government of Nagaland for the splendid work they had done during the 1991 Census through their District and Circle Administrations. I am thankful to them all. I am also thankful to Shri A.R. Nandil, Ex-Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India under whose stewardship plan for this volume was prepared and the subsequent guidance and encouragement rendered to get this volume through. I am also grateful to Dr. M. Vijayanunni, Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India and Shri S.P. Sharma, Ex-Deputy Registrar General (C&T) for their consta~l and untiring guidance in all technical matters pertaining to preparation of this publication and Smt. M.
