OFFENSIVE EFFICIENCY BREAKDOWN In this Thunder Stat Lab activity, we look at calculating Offensive Efficiency (OE). An individual’s offensive efficiency attempts to approximate the total points generated by an individual per possession, or, figuring out just how many points a player is likely to generate when he/she tries. Below is the expression for OE: FGM + A OE = FGA - OREB + A + TO FGM (field goals made): total number of field goals made (2pt or 3pt), does not include free throws A (assist): when a player passes the basketball to a teammate, and the teammate scores a basket FGA (field goals attempted): total number of field goals shot (includes both misses and makes), does not include free throws OREB (offensive rebound): when a player on offense secures a rebound after their teammate has missed a shot TO (turnover): when a player loses possession of the basketball to the opposing team Below are the variables and OE output from the Oklahoma City Thunder starting five players in the win over the Golden State Warriors on October 27th, 2019. Complete the table below by calculating each player’s OE, when simplifying don’t forget to round to the nearest hundredth, or the second number to the right of the decimal. Once you’ve completed the table, answer the questions below. FGM + A 1. Rank the players in order based on their OE from greatest to least.
