Oftentimes, they perform with the core intention of helping others. But, did you know that volunteering can benefit your own health as well? Researchers have attempted to measure the benefits that volunteers receive including positive feeling referred to as helper’s high, increased trust in others and increased social interaction. From lowering stress to boosting self-confidence, research has shown that volunteering offers many health benefits, especially for older adults, such as: 1. Volunteering decreases the risk of depression 2. Volunteering gives a sense of purpose and teaches valuable skills Community 3. Volunteering helps people stay physically and mentally active 4. Volunteering helps you meet others and develop new relationships 5:00-9:00pm RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) recruits and refers adults to make a Adult Community difference in their communities through volunteering. Their mission is to connect Center people to volunteer positions with local non-profits that align with their interests, skills and experiences. Membership is free and they will provide their members with Meet The Mayor supplemental accident, liability and auto insurance while they are performing their Monday, June 24 volunteer duties. They also hold an annual Volunteer Recognition Luncheon to show 10:00-11:00am their appreciation for their members commitment to service. Being a RSVP member is Adult Community a good way to track all service hours conveying to the community the true value of being a volunteer.
