If they were to come together in one statement, one sound, they would speak of the original truth or the First Sound. I am an American Indian from Southeastern Idaho. Joseph Paradise is a spirit who speaks through Henry Paradise, an American Indian man from a brother–tribe to my own. I know it is peculiar to say my teacher is a spirit, an intangible entity, but that is the truth. The spirit or the spirit world has long been acknowledged by the people I come from. American Indian people pray to the spirit in all things. The message in this book, however, is not American Indian spirituality as it is practiced by American Indians today. The idea of the spirit as an intangible, intelligent entity in all things is very ancient. The spirit has been known by many names in as many different cultures. Joseph equates the word spirit with the word God, but not the one God of Christianity as it is understood today. Joseph is Henry’s personal god or spirit residing in Henry’s subconscious part as an intangible, intelligent entity speaking through Henry. © Tzó-Nah Fund. All rights reserved. Joseph, as Henry’s spirit or god, he calls “lucifed” for Lucifer or the Devil. This struggle between distinguishes Christianity’s God as the sum of the personal gods good and evil, or the positive and negative energies in all humans, or spirits as One Whole God. is the test Henry goes through to open to his god, Joseph. Henry’s Joseph defnes the spirit or god as a vibratory thought god and Henry’s devil, or his emotions and fears, test him until, carried on light coming from out in the universe.
