With one of the largest candidate class sizes in recent history, the Valley worked hard to put its best foot forward and welcome the new members in style. The theme of the Reunion was “Are you a traveling man?” created by Ruben Owens and Guide Sobecki. The theme focused on Ancient Craft Degrees and their significance to the Fraternity. Saturday’s degrees toured candidates through the various countries and sagas of our heritage and included short presentations on the diversity and complexity of Masonic practices. It revealed how our Brothers around the nation and around the world carry out our universal obligations within their local cultures and values and addressed the importance of Masonic travel and the amazing unity across mankind that our fraternity has given the world. Each degree was well performed and gave the candidates another #1 Top-line Sponsor important lesson in their Scottish Rite journey. The Valley was pleased to welcome over 100 new candidates. Walter J. Andersen Many of these started their initiation back in June 2018 at the Grand Master’s Festival and finished with the Oriental Consistory’s 32nd Degree, directed by Marc Brofka. Commander-in-Chief, Lance Welter, took time to knight each candidate and Class Marshall, Ken Ludwig, spent the day giving them orientation and education. The largest applause of the day went to Class Honoree Marvin Selock for his lifetime of contributions to Freemasonry, Scottish Rite Valley of Chicago, and Illinois Council of Deliberation. A special thank you goes out to all the members and volunteers who made this experience unique for our candidates. Please take time to introduce yourself to the new members and make them feel welcome in their new home.
