In partnership with the Minnesota State Arts Board, Arts Midwest provides audiences across Minnesota with enriching cultural experiences. Arts Midwest Touring Fund engages people in meaningful experiences with the fine arts of dance, music, theater or musical theater, and other performing arts forms. When we share creative experiences, we build powerful connections with the people we are closest to, with our community and the world around us, and with ourselves. Grants of up to $4,000 are awarded to performing arts organizations to bring professional performances to their community. Arts Midwest Touring Fund 4 2018 ARTS MIDWEST RETURN ON INVESTMENT REPORT: MINNESOTA In FY18, Minnesota audiences experienced vibrant performances—from intricate orchestral music to energetic dance—and participated in community-driven activities. In the 2017–2018 performance season, Arts Midwest awarded $41,288 to 16 performing arts organizations in Minnesota. No Minnesota State Arts Board funds were used to support these activities. From May 16–31, 2018, Arts Midwest invested $99,700 to conduct the Arts Midwest Global Exchange program Dessa in China, which toured Minneapolis-based rapper, singer, and writer Dessa, along with supporting musicians Aby Wolf (Minneapolis) and Matthew Santos (Chicago), to Beijing, Chengdu, and Guangzhou, China. The artists conducted workshops and performances for hundreds of Chinese audience members, ranging in age from children to seniors. In sharing their stories and music and engaging in one-on-one conversations, artists and audiences examined their shared humanity through the similar themes that arose between their cultures. Arts Midwest supported 8 projects featuring Minnesotan ensembles touring to other Midwest states during 2017 –2018. In total, these Minnesota artists earned $224,700 by participating in Touring Fund programming.
