Membership of Get to the Point Includes All Residents and Rate Payers of Greenwell Point and the Pyree Area. the Gazette Has Long Focused on the Point

Published by the Get to the Point Programme, Circulation 1000 Volume 111 September 2015 Happy Potters. Joan Rule and Dave Paull of Greenwell Point at Shoalhaven Potters , Pyree Membership of Get to The Point includes all residents and rate payers of Greenwell Point and the Pyree area. The Gazette has long focused on The Point. To correct this situation The Gazette visited The Shoalhaven Potters at Pyree. The Group moved to the old school house at Pyree in In 1973. On the day of the visit we found an enthusiastic and friendly group of people with ages ranging from middle age to 90 something. Joan Rule, a founder of the group is one of the oldest and still an active potter. On the day of our visit there were, perhaps surprisingly, on- ly 3 residents of Greenwell Point—Joan Rule, Narelle Burman and Dave Paull. Surprising because the facilities are first class and a wonderful resource right on our doorstep. Members travel from as far afield as Berry and Vincentia to enjoy their craft. The studio is open every Monday from 9 am to 2 pm. Visitors and beginners are welcome. Anyone interested in learning the basic skills of pottery and working with clay may become a temporary member for 6 months to learn about pinch, slab, coil and press moulds, plus an introduction to wheel throwing and glazing. After the 6 weeks a temporary member can consider becoming a full member and have access to full facilities of the centre. Simply turn up on a Monday morning.
