It has been a busy few months within the ward ,in this edition our community reports on their latest activities, along with updates from your local ward councillors and RMBC .We would like to thank everyone who has supported and contributed to “The Hub” since our first edition last year We hope you enjoy. S Foster Wingfield Ward Event Wingfield Ward event took place on 17th April at Rockingham Professional Development Centre. This included a progress report on the Ward Plan priorities Building Community Infrastructure • Update on St Johns Green and the relocation of TARA to the Garden Hut • Greasbrough Library improvements • Facilities Directory • Wingfield Community Campus Isolation/loneliness and Young People • To hold stakeholder Summer summits to audit provision and develop directories of provision and explore funding. Crime/ASB • Attend monthly Case Identification Meetings to discuss issues. • Convene Wingfield Wednesday on a Thursday meetings where Councillors, partners and RMBC come together to discuss area issues. • Speeding/Parking are emerging issues – Rockingham School carried out a Speed Check outside school and designed their own tickets to issue to drivers. The groups fed back on the Dragons Den funding they had received last year. Group discussions were also held on • The Ward plan refresh – were these still the right priorities? • Food Festival – is this a good idea and who would like to be involved? • Greasbrough Library Activities – opportunity to learn more about the library services Next meeting will be on Wednesday 11th July at St Marys Church, Greasbrough. Wingfield Spotlight Theatre Wingfield Academy is proud to welcome you to Wingfield Spotlight Theatre, an Academy and Community theatre at the heart of the Wingfield Ward. The Theatre, a hub for performing arts was originally installed in the new Wingfield Academy building in 2005 and was funded by the National Lottery. The Theatre has gone from strength to strength and in 2013 was branded Wingfield Spotlight Theatre. During the year the Theatre hosts many shows and events including ,Academy productions , Concerts, Senior Citizens Christmas Party, Wingfields Got Talent , Awards Evenings, including the Wingfield Ward Community Awards, The Hub Church and most recently Greasbrough the Musical. The Theatre has been lucky enough and is very grateful to have been funded over the years by Councillors Leadership fund , Community First and the Big Lottery Fund. The funding has allowed us to offer a state of the art facility and learning environment which has allowed us to develop our student Technical Theatre Programme., and upgrade to latest industry standard equipment that is offered to all who use the theatre. Wingfield Spotlight Theatre is the perfect place to host your rehearsal /show/event/conference The Theatre has a sound, lighting, a video projection system and retractable seating with an audience capacity of 194. Kimberworth Park Walking with Pleasure Group Here at Kimberworth Park Walking for Pleasure we are beginning to wonder what has happened to the four seasons as Winter continued to invade Spring. The daffodils colourfully herald the dawn of the new season, but until recently the cold weather has refused to take note, impudently covering up the yellow with its own wintery white in a final attempt to make its mark. The effect has been made all the more noticeable by the early arrival of Easter, and the fact that the Easter Bunny only just escaped the grip of the Beast from the East. As a walking group, we have had the good fortune of a remarkably good run of weather on Wednesday mornings over a number of years. This year has been harder, but it does provide an opportunity to see the landscape in its seasonal flux and appreciate its sheer natural beauty. Farmers somehow manage to cultivate crops in fields of clay which can rotate between boggy quagmire and the consistency of concrete in a very short space of time. Now that we are emerging from the coldest weather, our walkers are seeing how nature has the resilience to bounce back and revive itself. If you would like to join the group we meet at St John’s Church at St John’s Green every Wednesday morning, the group completes local walks of between 3 to 4 miles. Every 4 weeks, using members’ cars, we venture further afield Greasbrough Allotments Allotments are available on Scrooby Street . For more information please call Rotherham Green Spaces on 01709 822453 Mon-Fri Greasbrough Allotments Fitzwilliam Square Association The Fitzwilliam Association has enjoyed a fantastic start to 2018 , our members have enjoyed range of activiites including a pie and pea event and a tea dance at the Carlton Park Hotel on April 17th. Both events were enjoyed by all We would like to mention two very kind ladies who in the recent bad weather came to our individual homes and offered a shopping service and support to us . We also send our many thanks to our neighbour Harry who cleared all our paths of snow and ice. Join the Fitzwilliam Association for activities and events at the community centre at Fitzwilliam Square Greasbrough. The Association meet Tuesdays & Thursdays – 2pm-4pm (Cuppa & Chat) Wednesdays – 11am (Coffee Morning) Fridays- 1pm (Fish & Chip Lunch followed by Card Games) Friends of Greasbrough Park Seating in Greasbrough Park has been on the agenda many times, but the problem of vandalism dictated that any seating had to be metal. Working alongside Rotherham Green Spaces officer Donna , Greasbrough Park has now been provided additional seating. Originally from Thrybergh, the seating was no longer in use, but required some TLC and painting to bring it back into use. Donna arranged for the seating to be delivered to Greasbrough Park and was stored behind the pavillion. Group member Dave Mee worked his magic with soapy water before painting the seating until they looked as good as new. Fitzwilliam Square Association Friends of Greasbrough Park Greasbrough Community History Society Linking the Past to the Present Hello everybody Here we go with edition number 7 of the of The Hub. This edition marks the first birthday of The Hub. We are one year old. Time flies when you’re having fun. The HUB is proving to be a much needed, very welcome and popular publication within the local commu- nity. The circulation and readership of The Hub is increasing with each publication and as such it may be worth local businesses considering submitting an article or an ad about their business. The Hub is made up of contributions submitted by our local community groups and organisations. The aim of The Hub is to provide a platform for our local community groups and organisations to keep you, the public, “in the loop” and up to date with what is happening in the vibrant Greasbrough and Wingfield areas. All the contributions are skilfully edited by Scott Foster of Wingfield Academy to make a super, local and free publication. What could be better? Thank you to Scott Foster of Wingfield Academy. Greasbrough Library Good news for Greasbrough Library is that it is to be refurbished at a cost of several thousand pounds. To my knowledge the building, which has been operating since 1974, (see photos of opening ceremony below) has not had too many refurbishments during this time so this latest news will be most welcome. Mayor Bill Skelton and Mayoress Joan Johnston in 1974 The Library is used extensively by many local groups as a meeting place and statutory organisations that provide a service such South Yorkshire Police, The British Legion, R.M.B.C. Housing and Councillor’s sur- geries where problems and concerns can be discussed in private. As such Greasbrough Library provides a much used and valuable resource and central hub for local people in Greasbrough and surrounding area. The plans will include new carpets, a fresh lick of paint, the repositioning of the reception desk and will incorporate a private office for the public to discuss any concerns in private with various organisations. The computer area will be retained but moved slightly. The kiddies area and the meeting room with remain much the same and the existing staff back office will be modified to utilise and make better use of space for RMBC services staff to do their admin work. This will be very good news for the Library and will go a long way to re assuring the public that Greasbrough Library is here to stay to provide vital services to the local community.
