In April 2005, the Huskers claimed their second consecutive national title since bowling was elevated to NCAA Championship status. Looking to make NCAA history during the 2005 season, the Huskers are on the right track for a run at another title. The Huskers captured their first NCAA title in 2004, the inaugural season of the sport’s NCAA status. The Huskers worked their way through the loser’s bracket to defeat Central Missouri State in the finals to win the championship. Nebraska made it two in a row with another season of dominance in 2004- 05. Finishing first in seven of their nine tournaments, the Huskers went on to win their second NCAA title in April of 2005. The Nebraska bowling team has certainly created a commitment to excellence. Under Coach Bill Straub and Assistant Coach Paul Klempa’s guidance, Husker women’s teams have won seven national titles in the past 14 years. The Nebraska women’s bowling program won IBC national championships in 1991, 1995, 1997, 1999 and 2001. The 2005-06 bowling team is hoping to add to the championship legacy Nebraska has established in women’s bowling. Although the Huskers lose three-time All-American Shannon Pluhowsky, Straub is confident Nebraska has the right ingredients for another outstanding season. “We lost one of the best bowlers of all time, without reference to gender. We can’t replace the best. However, we are getting a solid returning class and we believe we have the basis for still another successful season,” Straub said. “Each of these superb players wants to prove to themselves and the world of intercollegiate bowling that even without the great Shannon Pluhowsky, the Second-team All-American, Jamie Martin, captured her first individual title last season at the Husker bowling team will still be the best team.” Coca-Cola Invitational. She will be a key component in the Huskers’ quest for their third NCAA This season, Nebraska welcomes back first-team All-American Amanda title in 2005-06. Burgoyne, a junior from Newport, Minn. In 2004-05, Burgoyne led the Huskers with two individual tournament titles. In April, Burgoyne was named “Amanda’s greatest skill is being able to do her best when it counts the NCAA Tournament MVP with a career-high average of 251 during four games most,” Straub said. “She works tirelessly at maintaining her current level of in the qualifying rounds. Last summer, Burgoyne also advanced her individual development while striving to become even more proficient.” skills internationally while successfully representing her country on both the Burgoyne is joined by four veteran teammates.
