NOTES FROM THE SEPTEMBER COMMITTEE MEETING: The Committee discussed the criteria for the granting of Life Membership. Membership of the Society for minimum of 10 years. The Member must take an active part in the many various duties of Society management, and to promote the knowledge of orchid growing & conservation. The Treasurer was happy with the takings from the Annual Show. We have an excess of books in our Library which may be donated to Lifeline or given to Members. We had three new Members this month, they are Wendy Bailey, Sharyn McCredie and Paula Thompson. Welcome to Logan Society. Christmas Function will be at the Meeting venue on the 19th November, $10 for Members and $20 for non-members. 2 MINUTES LOGAN & DISTRICT ORCHID SOCIETY INC.GENERAL MEETING 20th AUGUST 2013 OPENING: The President Ken Martin opened the meeting at 7.35 pm Ken called on Reg Illingworth to move a Minute’s Silence for the passing of Val Heydon, a former Secretary of the Society. GENERAL BUSINESS: JOHN OXLEY ORCHID SHOW - Table top display was very good but unplaced. Thanks to Ian McKenzie, Margaret Tierney, Pam Price and Neville Hearn as well as Barry and Regina Chandler. / Members Merv Stewart, Jim McCubbin and Margaret Tierney placed well. OUR SHOW 24th 25th AUGUST Pam Price spoke on the usual issues of preparing plants, circulating rosters, the need to bring plastic bags and boxes. There was a concern about the number of people not volunteering for jobs on Show Days and set-up days. Trade Sales Report: Adrian was busy judging. No report. GUEST SPEAKER: Guest speaker for tonight is Pam Price who spoke on the SHOW and what she would like us to do to ensure that the show runs smoothly. John Roberts spoke on the basic steps one should take to bench a plant- staking safely, removal of pests, guaranteeing of stability, basic cleanliness and clarity of tag presentation.
