Be specific as you write out your thoughts. PERSONAL REFLECTION Given what was shared in the video, which do you value more: your intellectual intelligence or your emotional intelligence? Why? Which do you spend most of your time thinking about? If you placed your work, purpose and vocation on one side of a scale and tried to balance it with your rest, play and recreation on the other side, which side would weigh more? We must look at ourselves first and then look at others with this lens. We offer the following guidelines to help you determine who the right people are for you to proactively build relationships with. In short, you are looking for five qualities. Capacity 5. Course 2. Competence 4. Chemistry In this lesson, we focus on the two essentials to bring out the best in others: invitation and challenge. Let’s label this grid to help define our four leadership styles: • At the top of the vertical line write the words “High Invitation” and on the bottom write “Low Invitation”. • Next, On the right side of the horizontal line write the words “High Challenge” and on the far left write “Low Challenge”. • Jot notes and label each quadrant as we go through each leadership style: Cozy, Boring, Stressful, and Empowered. INVITATION AND CHALLENGE GRID Which quadrant resonates best with you personally? Which culture best describes your organization? ©2019 TTI Success Insights www.ttisi.com 9 REMEMBER THIS IMPORTANT POINT: We find the most healthy and successful teams imaginable in the top right quadrant for High Invitation-High Challenge labeled: EMPOWERED Given the leadership framework, think through and evaluate your organization. Ultimately every organization gravitates to one of these four realities: • an empowered culture • a cozy culture • a boring culture • or a stressful culture. THE INVITATION CHALLENGE MATRIX In this module you will take a deeper look at yourself and evaluate your natural strengths and weaknesses through the lens of the Invitation-Challenge Matrix. We have discovered over the years that no one is naturally good at both high invitation and high challenge; every leader is naturally good at one over the other. Let’s take a moment to assess your natural inclination toward either invitation or challenge! Consider the organizations you have been a part of, the leadership training you have received, and your natural personality type. Which culture, invitation or challenge, do you tend to create both at home and at work? Do you know?
