The theme this year was videoed horse racing and the enthusiasm and support for the horses gathered momentum as the night progressed! No one ‘lost their shirt’. Not only was it a fabulous social event, but everyone got into the spirit of things with support of all areas including fundraising from raffle tickets to ‘selling of the horses’, bar sales (no problem at all with that one!), our silent auction items plus having a punt on a horse for as low as $1. (No excuses from anyone next year! Entry tickets were only $5!) For those who missed the evening, that would be called a serious error of judgment. However, you can make amends next year!! Yes our numbers were significantly down on last year and we had some feedback on the possible reasons. It was ‘too cold, I am too old, too young, too middle aged!!!!!!!!!!’ At the end of the day, all excuses are equal if they stopped you from being with us! Some were not sure how the videoed horseracing would work and what sort of expense would be involved. The big advantage over the mouse racing was that it was not expensive to get involved. The fact that you could bet on a horse from as little as $1 meant that everyone could have some fun without taking a second mortgage on the house! So, the message for next year is to book a table and fully support our main fundraising event for the year. All the money goes to our club and in turn to our kids and it a great opportunity for you to meet other families. You don’t always get an opportunity on match days to have a good conversation and get to know others. You get that opportunity at a function like this. A big ‘thank you’ to all teams who provided for the raffle items with either retail vouchers or the putting together the most magnificent hampers They were definitely the highlight of the night and some suggested the raffles were ‘rigged’ as some ladies cleaned up with 3,4 even 5 prizes! They key next year is to buy more tickets to have more chances. Special thanks to our MC, President Nugget whose voice only just held out. Thanks also to our committee who worked in the background. Comments from Cory Lake (Lions 9’s) ‘I just wanted to pass on my congrats for what was great night on Saturday. This was the first one I had been to for the club and I will be definitely going again and also promoting it a lot more next time around. Well done and thanks’ Our Appreciation Night was held on 27 Aug at Percy Doyle. This is the President and Committees way of saying THANKYOU’ to all who contribute to the smooth running of our club and it is also a way for us to acknowledge the wonderful support received from our many sponsors. Suggest you look at the list on our website and support these companies as much as possible. If they are supporting us then we should support them whenever possible.
