As a Char- itable Trust combined with a full-time off-road professional race team and a lifestyle company fo- cused on food and car culture, we are able to successfully achieve our goals to support combat vet- erans’ transition and adjustment into productive civilian life by providing meaningful experiences and training programs, empowering them to believe in themselves, contributing various forms of aid, and helping them find holistic solutions to their health needs. “With malice toward none, with charity for all...let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation’s wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan, to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace...” President Abraham Lincoln, 1865 2nd Inauguration Speech LETTER FROM THE FOUNDERS At the turning of the Civil War, President Lincoln recognized the duty to care for those who have borne the battle. For all who fought, and all men and women who still fight for freedom, the needs are clear and present. Sabot Foundation was born of the passion to deliver a duty of care to our veterans that embodies Lincoln’s words. We strive to support wounded or struggling veterans in any way that we can; the needs are great and our commitment equals our passion. In this, our second year of serving veterans, the foundation continues to mature our strategic goals, our core business functions, and our delivery of direct support to veterans and those who served in a theater of combat. We do this through the active and generous support of our founders, donors, volunteers, and our team. Strategic Goals Our current strategic goals include identifying veterans who need support (the kind of support that will improve their lives), providing experiences and networking that help veterans reintegrate into a normalized life, and identifying and obtaining sustainable financial resources to make these goals possible. Since we have discovered that combat veter- ans tend to prefer treatments/immersion within natural environments and natural healing as opposed to treatments involving the use of opioids, pills and like-type substances - our focus will expand to develop a long-term strategy that involves medical professionals who can assist veterans with: alternative programs; nature-based treatments in order to provide a time-out from everyday stressors; a reduction in PTSD symptoms; and a renewed sense of spiritual awareness which has made a huge difference for most veterans we have encountered. We have extended our involvement from assisting homeless veterans to financially assisting veterans on a limited basis in specific areas of need; to enhance their lives and provide them a nurturing push to help them transition as well as provide relief from long term injuries. Core Business Functions We have invested time, talent and funding to stabilize and grow our core business functions. These range from estab- lishing and growing a trustee managed non-profit 501(c)(3), to delivering the systems and financial planning to ensure the sustainability of the organization for years to come. Elements of our work in 2018 included establishing processes to determine who and how we can effectively help, managing the logistics and expenditures of the events and activities, expanding our health programs, holistic platforms, education, and legal assistance while promoting alternative meth- ods to relieve the heavy use of pills and/or opioids. These elements encompass our core functions. Service Delivery We plan our veteran team building and social activities with an open mind to ensure we deliver what actually moves the dial for veterans as we work across a range of projects. In 2018 we accomplished this through: service delivery to over 175 veterans; instituting social impact experiences and programs; creating exciting environments and opportunities to participate in adventures involving our professional off-road racing team; delivering outdoor events; and, most impor- tantly, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie. Looking Back 2018 was truly a year of firsts for Sabot Foundation: • The Foundation was a major sponsor for the 30th Anniversary California Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the 100th Anniversary of the end of WW1. • On Memorial Day we honored over 35 veterans for a day at the Commemorative Air Force Wing; veterans were flown in actual WW2 vintage fighter planes and Bombers by Navy and Air Force Pilots, for a unique experience over the Pacific Ocean. • Contributed to the White Heart Foundation in support of USN HMC Holly Katke at the Naval Base at Point Mugu to provide special rehabilitation equipment and help with transportation. • Sponsored two certified medical training programs in Las Vegas, NV & Youngstown, OH for interested veterans. • Spent quality time with veterans in Ventura, CA en-route to the 2018 Invictus Games in Australia. • Visited General Raymond Thomas the Commander of USSOCOM and members of DOD at MacDill Air Force Base for a day of meetings surrounding the foundation and strategy talks involving the June 2019 DOD Warrior Games held in Tampa, FL. • In conjunction with Brothers in Arms Foundation, contributed to financial support for a press tour in Washington DC to increase the publicity of the feature documentary about Major James Capers Jr (USMC RET.), The Legend of Team Broadminded, Produced and Directed by Ashley Cusato. Capers was one of the Marine Corps first African American Special Operators, First African American Officer nominated for the Medal of Honor. He received the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars, Purple Heart with cluster and was the face of the Marine Corps recruiting in the 70’s and 80’s. • Sabot Foundation donated $10,000 to the Special Operations Charity Network who supports organizations such as SEAL Kids who conduct academic testing, tutoring, therapy, advocacy, and enrichment to foster the success and well-being of the children of Naval Special Warfare members. • Contributed an additional $30,000 in cash donations to several other foundations. • Sponsored several events involving fishing with a Pro-Bass Group at Lake Folsom. • Identified and vetted a Neurometabolic Rehabilitation Program created by The Arizona Chiropractic Neurology Cen- ter as a way to assist veterans with neurological injuries such as TBI, PTSD, and CTE. As of this date, we are sponsoring two veterans as participants in their intensive treatment program. We March Forward No grass will grow under our busy feet as we expand and streamline our vision in 2019. We aim to serve veterans with: • We believe in, and have fully witnessed, the turnaround that veterans experience through physical activity and medical support focusing on their personal and psychological well-being. With this in mind, we will document and share their stories to encourage more veteran participation. • Currently planning with the City of Malibu, CA, the Mayor and a key member of the City Council, an aquatic therapy event this year with aims to build strength, promote balance, and offer relief from stress and pain. • Complimentary medical, therapy and chiropractic professionals through a network of free-to-veterans service de- livery. This will be achieved in conjunction with One Life One Vet, an organization dedicated to connecting veter- ans to willing ‘no-cost’ service providers by implementing a platform of volunteer medical and alternative health professionals to donate their time to their local veterans in various service areas: chiropractic treatments for work- ing with PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy and other related injuries utiliz- ing Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT); massage therapy and acupuncture; creative arts therapies; other body work; supplementation, and other modalities to assist veterans to healthier mobility and mental health management. Sabot Foundation exists to not only deliver at the front lines of need, but we also inspire others to be involved in this mission to help our veterans’ transition back into the civilian world after serving in combat environments. We owe it to them. The United States of America recruits all-volunteer armed forces. Simply relying on the government to serve every need goes against the principles of the armed services – to serve and protect the people of the United States. We each have a responsibility to do our part, veteran or civilian. Smaller organizations such as ours can be the vital bridge to serve those who have borne the battle. HAMMOND MEREDITH JON KRASHNA ABOUT SABOT Founded by Hammond Meredith and Jon Krashna, Sabot Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Charitable Trust creat- ed with one goal in mind: to support combat veterans and their transition to civilian life. The trauma that PTSD, CTE, TBI and other conditions imposed on veterans can often only be understood by those who have experienced it; the harrowing days and multiple deployments in support of operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Vietnam. Sabot reaches out to those who require assistance and provide opportunities to improve their quality of life in transitioning or sustaining a balanced lifestyle. The Foundation is dedicated to supporting veterans by inspiring life-long connections, participation in wholesome activities, fostering and utilizing ho- listic platforms to combat the effects of PTSD, CTE, TBI, educating the public about the impact of these con- ditions, and promoting camaraderie.
